Am I doing something wrong. should there be a - here or there? or a . where there should or shoudn't be? Or.... S or E? because some have these and some dont. Same with our Tom Tom.....it always rejects our numbers we type in??????

To see the format Google maps requires you can check out what THEY use by going to one of their maps & right clicking and selecting "what's here" & looking in the address bar.

eg. -34.872412,138.999023

It can alter the position by a couple of metres too if it's WGS84 or not.

Hi Ash & Wendy

I will try to help with any question you have about Geowiki :D
NOTE - there are 6 different GPS formats but you can select which ever one you prefer in your personal preferences of Geowiki.

I guess you are C*CA Members so please send any questions to geowiki@cmc*.net.au and we will do whatever we can to help. If you find any errors in Geowiki, you can enter an update yourself as long as you have registered. I am a volunteer Geowiki Moderator and we have a team that checks the entries before they go live, so feel free to have a go - you can not do any damage OK ? :D

If you would rather just send an email to notify us of an issue in Geowiki, just send it to geowiki@*mca.net.au and we will investigate and enter the changes for you.

We will have a Geowiki Help Desk in the indoor trade at the Maryborough Rally, so anyone going can come along and ask any questions there too :D

Cheers

Bruce

Part of the problem could be the settings on your GPS.
On most you can choose either degrees, minutes & seconds or decimals of a degree.
Check in the 'settings' folder to ensure your GPS is on the same page as Camps is.
(From memory - our C6 is in m/h - the book runs decimals of a degree.)
Regards & God bless,
Ray

I know it's not the nautical way of doing things but I liked to have co-ordinates in degrees only and distance in km;s only.
We all can relate more easily to '.xxxxx' as being a % of one whole unit.
eg. .2500 = 1/4 = 25%
eg.. .7500 = 3/4 = 75%
.275km = 275metres = 27.5% of a km.

If you find a need to change between the various input styles, you night want to try Nomad's Coordinator.
(Windows only)

It is a simple conversion tool I put together to fill a need I had.
