Lesley, how far from the beginning of the gorge track is your campsite? The view looks good.
Cheers

Dave, approximately 5kms. The views from the campground are amazing. It’s a very elevated position compared to the Takarakka CP which is down in the trees between Sandstone and the gorge in the background.

Tanks" here---Leslie,
What do you think about this location for a Forum Get-together.
Looking forward to/for future times when the gates to Queensland are open and there are no travel restrictions in force ?
What shopping facilities, water, dump points etc are available at or near the campsite.
Is Emerald the place to top-up your essentials, and how far from the campsite.
The views are good looking at the photos. Love the "drone" shot.
Keith.

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

It's a great spot but it is almost totally self-contained, there are toilets/ dump points and that's about it..Keith Morris wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 7:50 am Tanks" here---Leslie,

From memory the closest shopping would be Roma, but small places like Injune may have what you want.
We were there a few years ago , so maybe it's changed since then.
Bit far for WA travelers tho'

Not suitable for a gathering Keith. As Ron says it’s very isolated, 40kms off the highway between Rolleston and Injune. Portaloos, bins and a dump point and you can buy water at .20c per litre. [emoji15]
And $28 per night which is not what many would want to pay but the views are priceless. Though the sites are very big and we saw groups of 3 and 4 on one site. Not sure if they charge the same amount. They do offer dog sitting for those who want to go into the National Park - and that’s really only the reason to go there.
A couple of shots from the helicopter ride we took.

Nothing free at Carnarvon Gorge Kay. Takarakka is about $50 per night and the camping area in the NP is only open during school holidays. I wouldn’t fancy being there with a million kids.
Having said that, there were two caravans parked in an off road area next to the helicopter property who were obviously doing their own thing. Not something we would do though.

Great photos, thank-you. That's one thing I've never done- taken a helicopter ride.
How was the gorge formed?
