Boost 12 Month $150 80Gb

The Boost 12 month expiry 80Gb for $150 pre-paid deal changed on 1st July to 85Gb for $200. Clearly more expensive.

HOWEVER - if you already had the $150 deal, you can still recharge & get the same deal
If you are a new customer you can't.

BUT
There are a number of online sellers - on ebay, or on their own sites ('Google' Boost 12 month $150) still selling the 'old stock' sim cards for new customers until they run out. These have activation dates up to early 2022 (varies between Feb to April 2022). So can be activated at any time up to that date to get the full 12 months/80Gb. The only downside is that as of 1st September 2020 folk buying them will not be eligible to renew again at that price after the 12 months is up.

No need for comments about I prefer this or that deal. This boost deal suits my MrsTea's use for her ipad & is the best deal on the Telstra network for this amount of data even though the phone calls/texts etc go unused. (Telstra want $150 for 40Gb). And yes the Boost sim does work in the data only ipad.

We won't need to activate it until we leave Mutchilba (where we have satellite broadband provided), but with 18 months before it needs to be activated it seems like a good idea to purchase now before there are no more left to buy.

Thanks Cuppa, my phone is with Boost & I connect my iPad to it if it runs out of data.
Mine is due to expire March think mine was 120GB for $200.

Does the full 4G and small town repeaters work ok with Boost? Or do you need the mega expensive Telstra sim to get this sort of performance? I have no interest or need for 5G, but if it works with a modem that can accept an aerial then we could use that for our "smart" TV at home as well as use it when travelling.

Terry Telstra own Boost & Belong nbn. I've only ever used my Boost internet with 4G, only bought it in March & our area only recently was able to connect to nbn

Terry, I used Boost when last in Taggerty. Phone was connected to computer and worked perfectly. I also was able to connect when at Mansfield by the dam when those using Telstra , Optus or Vodaphone had no signal.

Have used Boost all around the country for past 3 years. Don't know about 5G (is it available yet?).

Telstra does not own Boost, but Boost has almost full use of the Telstra network, & also uses some of the Telstra 'back end' services. Eg.Billing. (Telstra's name on the bank payments). Only difference with Boost is that it doesn't get you 4GX in the major cities - I've never missed what I've never had. Also doesn't get you the 'free' access to Telstra Air (pink phoneboxes). (Not many of them around in the outback! And anyway I read somewhere recently that Telstra are planning to stop automatically bundling Telstra Air with their plans - it will soon become an additional cost).

So...99.9% of Travellers will notice no difference between Boost & Telstra service. If using it on a phone - unlimited calls & texts & way more overseas calls included than we could ever use.

Of course the price per Gig of data is higher than home broadband, but compared to any other mobile service with the coverage of Telstra it's hard to beat. Over the past few years the deals have become increasingly better, but I think there has been some sort of shake up among the Telcos, & the latest Boost deal is not quite so good as the one which preceded it - hence my mention of the availability still of the preceding deal whilst stocks last. Kudos to Boost - whenever deals have been upgraded to more data for the same cost - existing customers have been automatically upgraded, unlike Telstra who were happy for unknowing existing customers to continue paying the same but without upgrading them to the higher data allowances that new customers would get.

So if Cuppa is correct about Boost not working on the 4GX frequencies then a lot (or maybe all) of the data only cells that are being used by Telstra to fill in blackspots might also not be accessible, we've found a lot of small communities that once had no service are now served by the data only cells.

Dunno Peter, I have never used 4GX - thought it was just a city thing. We have been able to use Boost at all communities we’ve visited where Telstra is available as far as I know.

I pay $120 ($10 month) a year for 240Gb 4G (2Gb a month), they also give bonuses every couple of months, the last one was 20 Gb and no contract.
