Last week we candied a kilo of figs, very nice but did not last long. This week we are doing 4 kilo’s while they are still avaiable.

First two kilo’s washed, trimmed and pricked and in the pot

Will do the other 2 kilo’s once these are finished.

And the finished product

After a few years of spices and herbs being in 4 overflowing plastic boxes in the pantry I bit the bullet and reorganised them all.

Took over the kitchen junk draw and got rid of 80% of the crap in there and then started emptying the pantry.
Pleased with the results.

On Saturday my daughter bought over two large shopping bags
One was full off small lemons and the other full of limes and a few Ruby Grape Fruits. These I will juice, Zest, Dry and make Sima a drink from Finland.

Today we went to visit Dot and George at Strathalbyn who gave us a box of apple and other friends at Milang Who gave us the following,

Rosemary
Sage
Kaffir Lime Leaves
Bay Leaves
Honey
Beetroot
Chillies
Eggplant
Pumpkin
Apples
Kaffir Limes
Cumquats

So this week I will be doing pickles and jam/Marmalade.
A days travel and a bounty of produce. A big thank you for your generous gifts.

Have been unable to buy pickled ox tongue down and mentioned it to a friend. To day her son dropped in six for us so three in the freezer and three going in the brine to morrow. Xmas in July bonus.
So a bit of hot tongue on the menus in 12 days cheers Robert
