Hi,
We are stuck here in Sydney minding our grandsons and it's not possible for us to get to help with Blase Aid so all I can say is how proud we are of our Chapter, Highway Wanderers and our chapter president who is encouraging our members to get involved where ever possible. There are lots of HW members and indeed club members out there participating, and running some of the camps. Hi Jo and Derek who are counted in that group. My sister also.
Not only have they been helping in Queensland and NSW but in Tasmania as well after the fires there

I would love to help but really need to be here during cyclone/wet season. My hat off to those who are lending a much needed hand. I know what it is like to be all by your lonesome clearing up storm damage, we went through it by ourselves after YASI.
Bloody local government mayors, some are really good but some of them are such a waste of oxygen, how about the fools who want to do away with state government and just have Julia and local yobbo mayors

Careful Rob!!
We don't wish to turn things ugly as we have some from each camp.
I'm half joking ofcourse!!!
I think we can leave everyone to read the writing on the wall..... it is in English!
But yeah! .... if 10% of what is wasted ...............

Re: Blaze Aid and the people of.
We expect the QLD sites to be still running past Sept and maybee October so plenty of time.
Remember the fires in 2009 were in Feb and we finished early DEC
Much of the work already done is now being washed away again so it will be go back and start again.
Regards
Brian

Fair enough Brian, we are planning on going to Maryborough next month for some sort of get-together, if we do I will leave a few days early and lend a hand for a few days. I have had a look at the web site and will keep up to date with ithomeless wrote:We expect the QLD sites to be still running past Sept and maybee October so plenty of time.

Re: Blaze Aid and the people of.
I have asked the writer of this post (from another forum) if I may post his post here I thought it was worth putting here....Thanks Wayne
I'm bumping this because I feel there is a lot of opportunity for people on this forum to contribute more.
Forgo the self indulgent lifestyles for a while and give some of your time to help out those fellow Aussies having a tough time, through no fault of there own
I can assure you that you WILL feel great about yourself after doing it.
There are Blaze Aid site in Victoria,Tasmania, Queensland. There MAY be a new one in NE Victoria as a result of the tornadoes there recently.
Forget all the excuses why you can't do it, and pick up the phone today , or just turn up at one of the sites.

Re: Blaze Aid and the people of.
An important tasks preformed by the volunteers is to lighten the spirits of the people affected by the disasters. Our moto is " We are not just rebuilding fences but rebuilding lives" On our hats shirts etc that we have available for volunteers is "Blazeaid Volunteers assisting communities after natural disasters" so really we are known for the act of rebuilding fences but whilst doing that we give a lift the whole community.
In Queensland we have cleaned libraries and museums as well as other local attractions because we cant yet get on to lots of the farms to start fencing.
Many of the farmers are at their tethered ends and many say that they are prepared to walk off the farms as they can not repair the damage done. Many have been destroyed every year for the last three years.
Some people take on the task of just going out to the farms and helping the wife with general tasks and just being there with them and giving them something to distract their minds and someone to talk to and to bounce ideas and fears of off.
In Kilmore in 2009 we had a group of people who went out to the farms and help the farmers redesigned their new garden and doing small tasks that at the time are just to great for the farmer to tackle. If you have the gift of the Gab, or a sentimental nature or a way with animals or children then there are jobs for you that don't involve back breaking work. it is all part of the recovery.
We are desperate for a person with sheep experience and hopefully with their own working dog as Kevin being in hospital is causing lots of worries for him and the family.
He was in preparation for mating his flocks and now the rams are here in a paddock and the ewes are still separated in other paddocks around the farm.

Re: Blaze Aid and the people of.
I'd love to help Brian but I'm not sure if it'd be beyond me now days.
Any more details?
How big is the property & how many sheep & paddocks?
If Merino sheep they should have been mated back in Nov/Dec I'd reckon?
