Not wrong Wayne, read about this a couple of weeks ago and it's very logical. They've done this with lifepo4 cells, because of their safety and reliability. We did experiments many years ago to gauge which was the best chemistry for li-ion cells and couldn't get a lifepo4 cell to overheat, or catch fire, even when we punctured the cell and held a flame to it. When my mad mate decided to charge it really fast with 400amps, we cleared out of the shed and waited for the boom, but nothing happened and when we checked the cells, they were a bit warm and sat at 15v. But they quickly come back to sane voltages and I'm still using some of those cells.

They heat the cells up to over 100deg I think, then charge them and they take charge at huge rates then settle down to ambient temps. If it's true and the method is secure, then it's a great leap forward. I do think they may have added something of changed the cells a bit, but doubt they will release the technology behind it.

(((((THIS IS FOR DOTS EYES ONLY!!!!
Dear Dot,
YES I may take a little more than 5 minutes to charge UP !!! (That lovely blue pill that your partner actually supports you taking)
BUT the discharge rate has been known to last for several hours/come up again hours latter!!!So   )))))))))))
Dear Native Pepper,
I have read some of your earlier posts! Great condolences to your mates family and yourself for the loss of someone that has so much developing knowledge.
I myself look to T1 and yourself and others for info to support my decisions, on the direction I am taking!!
Without the input of the knowledge JUST from this site I would have made some $$$$$$$$$$$$ mistakes.
Thank you everybody who posts here YOU do realize how important some of your (Mistakes) posts have MADE a difference!!!!!!

Hate to pour rain on the parade, but this is typical reporter B/S trying to create a story that doesn't exist. I love the way facts never get in their way, like the crap about requiring 2 hrs for a recharge. The EV you buy today can recharge to 80% in 20 mins. With a range of over 400km highway speed from a 100% recharge, the 80% gives the vehicle another 320km.
LTO lithium batteries have been around since the whole lithium revolution started, so nothing new, they can be recharged at 30CA or 30 x 100 amps for a 100Ah cell, a tad over 15 mins from zero % to 100% .... but no one would do that to a cell they wanted a long cycle life from so 5% to 95% is a tad more realistic and the 15 min recharge is a reality right now ..... except the energy density of LTO cells make them too heavy for an EV.
Now let's look at the required supply to recharge todays 40kWh EV battery in 15 mins, 160kW, not impossible but seriously, why?
Next time you pull into the service station, make a record of when you actually pulled up at the pump, then again when you actually drive out of the service station. Not too many of us do a Bathurst 1000 pit stop refuel. By the time all have made the required trip to the toilet, the fuel has been pumped and the attendant paid .... and that cup of coffee etc .... how long does that refuel stop really take? If you do it in under 20 mins you are either travelling alone or you will be soon because you rushed the party back into the vehicle to resume sitting there for another 4 hrs ....... that is how long it would take to travel the 320km the 20 min recharge gave you while averaging 80km/h. You think you average a higher speed than 80km/h over 320 kms ..... ya dreaming
Range anxiety is something pushed by the fuel industry and the internal combustion engine manufacturers, not something anyone who actually drives one of todays EV's actually experiences. Let's face it, 720km with a 20 min break in the middle, do you consider that to be safe motoring ...... really????
