Alden & Altech on Jayco Optimum

Post by SteveW »

Calling RussellB, Calling RussellB.

I made my first attempt at using the VAST system tonight. Have had no need to use it so far but thought I might learn how to use it. Got the books out and did what I was told - I think. It said, "suppose you are in Melbourne (which I am) and you choose Optus C1, Zone 1." Well I did that and the BRT (big round thing) went round and round, up and down, for ten minutes but would not stop anywhere. Shut it down - as per instructions, tried it again with the same result.

I have registered my VAST card but have not played with the VAST box other than to see if the connections are OK. Altech screen on TV simply indicates that it is waiting for a signal.

Will appreciate any help.

Thanks for the replies. I'll get out there this evening and give it a whirl. Too hot out there today.

As for ebooks Russell, they're the best thing ever. As well as the Kindle thing, I have the app on my phone and my books go everywhere I go. Cup of coffee down the road - read my book on the phone for 20 minutes. Catch the train - read my phone book. I would say having the portablility triples the time I can read. Handy now that at this age it's pointless looking at pretty girls on the train.

I braved the heat, did what Youtube told me and it settled on a point in the sky.

My connection between the Altech and the TV is good. Going through the menu selections the signal strength is showing 0% and no channels scanned in. In my settings the LNB is single, Mhz is 10700 although the scanning frequency is 12???. Should that be right? Info also shows the card is unlocked and apparently OK.

I've exhausted what the instruction manuals for the Sat dish and the VAST box tell me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help so far.

Steve I've no experience with the Alden sat finder but do you need to set the angle of the LNB on them? I'd bet you do.
I found it DID make a difference for me but other's reckon I'm just 'old'.
Are you familiar with the angle for your position? Melbourne is it?
37 degrees positive
You'll need to loosen the clamp & spin it to required position & retighten it.

PS. when you activated it did you specify Traveller?

The LNB is automatic based on zones, see book for zones for current locale. (zone 1 sounds about right for Melbourne)

DO NOT USE A SCREW DRIVER TO DO ANYTHING PLEASE

Have you registered your vast card. (Its free and quite quick during office hours but only lasts 6months.)

There are free options for renewing anf waking up see http://www.mysattv.com.au

If you haven't used it before you will need to register, allow it to scan and update software.

Some time the card is "funny" and need to be wiggled a bit. :(

Do not use a screw driver.

Haven't gone near it with a screw driver, and I understand that the LNB is automatic, thanks Russell. Is the LNB Single - I notice in the setttings there is the option of Single and Dual.

Vast Card is definitely registered and it shows that on the screen. I have sent off an email to the VAST help people to ask if the fact that I was in South Australia when I registered - and said so; and whether the fact that I am now in Melbourne trying to connect is significant.

Thanks so far.
