Blue? That's different Dot. Good on you for trying something different. My plates are plate size...they vary. Some are sort of 8inches by 10 inches and the plattery ones are closer to 10 inches by 12 inches. Any bigger and they are too heavy to put food on. They wont fit in the kiln either, max of 11 1/2 inches square. xxxx
Today was a fail in the shed. As predicted, the metal skewers just folded up under pressure. The pot still had half the glass in it, nicely melted, and it landed on the tray underneath, which also had some glass melted into it. The mess was a PITA, but relatively easy to repair. Glass was removed from the pot, by hammer therapy. Next step was to work out a better method of suspension. I searched the shed and found some tile off cuts from our bathroom, that should be good. I have used tiles before, some very successfully and others have exploded on cooling. I decided to play it safe, this time. The tile slices have been sent up to 850C, had the door opened to give it some shock treatment and finally left to cool down overnight. Once I am sure this will work, I can re-use the same glass and try again.
The moral of the story? Don't believe labels on products from China, I should have known better.
Goodnight one and all xxx

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Deb,
That’s a pretty spiffy looking platter!
Wish we were allowed to travel back into NSW.
I’d like to see more of your stuff.
Couldn’t risk a detour on Friday. Just as well, given that YOU’RE now in lockdown because of Lake Munmorah & Morisset kids.
We could have been caught up in the whole shebang… and locked out of home again.

Well, the Witching Hour approaches — so I’m off to snoozeland before I turn into a pumpkin.
G’nite all.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Dot, you do too much washing. Leave it for someone else to do sometimes xxxx
Thanks Ray. Would have loved to see you but we have only been locked in for 45 days now. You may find your 14 days goes fast with the right attitude, but sometimes it just gets a bit overwhelming.
The tiles fired up well, so tonight's load is all back in the holey pot suspended over tiles to give it some height, with a tray below to catch the drips. I have done this process in miniature in the old kiln, but this one is a first. First time firing anything at 850C for an hour. THat should get it all molten and through the holes....time will tell.
Found a sad entry on f**kbook tonight. They have had to close Gemfest. All being "normal" we would have been almost there by today, so it would have been even harder for us than it has been this week. We were so lucky to get out in the van for June Long weekend, and now we are missing the travel so much. Maybe next year.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Dot, I beat you tonight. It's so cold that I think an early night might be about to happen.xxxx
Kiln was interesting. The top glass has started to fall through the holes and done very little else. It's like the holes are blocked with glass and a little waterfall is happening below. Not quite what I was expecting, so I have sent it back to re-fire with a little longer to drop through the holes. We wandered down to my shed a little earlier, to check that it was doing the while time at 850C. It was such a bright light coming through the peep hole, that I didn't open the door to check. It said it had done 1/2 hour at that temp and had another 1/2 hour to go before dropping slowly to room temp. I have just thought about the glass I am using. It isn't my usual stuff and has a higher melting point. It may still need to go even higher to get to runny enough to flow through the holes. Tomorrow will give me some answers.
Has an interesting email from some of the gemfest traders tonight. Many of them are already in the area and have decided to have a show of their wares in a couple of the town halls in the area. This is to make up for all their travel expenses and time that they would be there etc. I am thinking they may live to regret that move.. Most traders are not of the youngest age groups and most are old farts like us. Hope they stay healthy during this civil disobedience.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Missed last night, we decided at 2pm yesterday arvo to hop in the bus with Brian and food and head up the road to the rest area out of Tailem bend for the night but hey what is another night so still here enjoying the sun, home tomorrow as G has as a dentist appointment Thurs. Fuel prices up around $1.70 +, What is wrong with people and the covid, yesterday I got another email from a long time friend telling me there is no such thing as covid, the gov is telling us lies, it is poisonous, told them thats their choice to believe what ever they want to but I am on the side of science rather that tin hat theories and not to send me any more of their shite scare mongering, may be a friend lost but everyone is entitled to their own ideas just don't shove them on me .end of rant
Sun is going down along with the temperature so I shall say goodnight everyone x
Goodnight Macca x
Hope your chest has sealed and healed

Agree exactly Dot.
And then, what about the protesters who complain about the gov't approach and how it's are trying to protect everyone.

Ditto, Dottie!
Came across a lady in Charleville who was spouting the same tinfoil hat theories. Avoided her after that, even though we were at the same campsites three more times!

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Yep, they are definitely out there. My niece, who is a nurse, is still refusing to have the injections because of some tin hat crap. Her loss. Good to see you are living the high life Dot, stay there and enjoy the sunshine. xxxx
Very busy day in the lair. I had to stay upstairs to wait for Miss Melons to deliver my fruit and veg. This is one of the few companies up here, that don't insist on you taking some randomly selected basket of all the stuff that nobody eats. While waiting for the delivery, I spent time on the computer doing a grocery order with woolies. This disease is so serious that we are staying home for as long as it takes. Amazing to see the bank statement has already removed the money for woolies, yet when I try to send money from the same account it can take days.
The kiln was finished and really is looking like we are almost on the right track, but still not all of the glass had dropped into the tray below. Dang it, I set the kiln to fry it up to 950C and tomorrow will be the expected end of this trial.
