When we built our house in 1997, our power was connected underground to our house, we have a wooden pole, at the time we were advised against a calvanised pole but neither of us can remember why ? It wasn't the cost.

Bruce, arsenic will just make you live a bit longer, I fell into a vat of it at my mothers weedkiller factory as a kid and I am still here !

When I was involved with the MPO (Marijuana Petition Organisation) in the late seventies one of the main instigators worked the midnight DJ shift at one of Sydney's most conservative, church owned, radio stations. Was very handy for printing propaganda and stuff like that.
Anyway he had a long held dream to release a couple of gallons of LSD into Warragamba dam and watch Sydney off it's face.

Fortunately Aids got him before he could do so.

Back to original question.
If it is possible for you to touch it without a ladder or some sort of tool then I believe it is not compliant.
Attached pic is an extract from the previous version of AS3000 but I believe the clause to still be relevant. The important word in there is SHALL.

George, you are referring to consumer supply mains, Bruce is referring to distribution mains. In my subdivision there are no power poles, just the occasional street light.

And a little note on mass poisoning via the water network.
Do the maths for parts per million and you will see that you would need a truck load of substance to make a noticeable change. It all sounds good around the campfire but it really isn't practical. We did most of the safety threat risk modelling when the Commonwealth Games were announced for the GC many years ago.
