Hi, all.
Drumbeats reminds me of an owner-driver I was training a year ago, a gentleman from Somalia.
When asked "Do you have a GPS ? " he replied "I have a TomTom." I said " Don't change the subject."
BTW - anyone tried fitting a muffler to a genset?

Re: Bushmaster Generator
Well Shonky you have convinced me. As much as I wouldn't mind a smaller generator I will stick with my 3ui Honda. I have read lots of stories about cheap inverter generators and I am still waiting for a report on one as good as a Honda. I know you are paying for the name BUT you also get quality and in the long run I think its's worth it

Shonky that is on my agenda.
I'm not sure how effective it will be as most of these cheap generators seem to transmit a darn lot of noise through the actual carcase (crankcase?). On mine I suspect only half is from the exhaust.
I'm going to construct a double expansion one.
Exhaust noise is mostly from the sudden expansion of the compressed gases.
I did it once for a 35HP irrigation engine that my next door neighbor complained about. (going all night)

Progresively bigger as you go. Be careful not to create any more back pressure that at present.

Hi
Just a general reminder to ALL
With the generator plugged into the VAN power inlet you have no shock protection to "earth"
The van RCD is not functional
The risk of something going wrong encreases the more CLass1 appliances that are connected
It is a SAFETY RECOMMENDATION thatONLY ONE Class 1 device/appliance be connectedat ANY time
Your van itself is a CLass1 device
Clas1 devices ALWAYS have a 3 pin plug
You can use muttiple Class2 devices at the same time with a very high level of safety from shocks to "earth"

Re: Bushmaster Generator
this is a major reason why so many motorbikes went to water cooled, the noise actually comes thetrough the head and cyls. I think Honda use a specially designed cowling of 2 layers with a plastic film between so the noise is contained inside the heat shield. Sumps and tappet covers on car engines have heen made this way for the last 30 yrs or more to reduce noise emmisions.admin wrote:shonky wrote:Hi, all.

Re: Bushmaster Generator
Maybe a sound proofed box of some sort. I once had a Honda 2kva inverter on a 30' powercat to run an air-con. We had it in a box mainly to protect it from spray etc and had slots cut for the air intakes and exhaust outlet. No insulation, justy a fibreglass coated plywood box with a removable lid. It reduced the noise a fair bit so maybe a purpose built one would do even better

Re: Bushmaster Generator
Hi, all.
Just had a chat with Bushpower about the "drumbeats at 7 miles" problem- they do a 30 day refund guarantee which is handy, and I'll be getting feedback from our motorhoming neighbours about the noise level first. No, this will not be taking place at midnight.
Before I return it, what, if any, gensets are considered good value apart from Yamaha and Honda?

Re: Bushmaster Generator
Shonky please be careful grouping all Honda's in the same basket.
There is one particular 3kva Honda that is made & directed at the tradie's for use on construction sites that will wake the dead on a cold frosty morning. It has a roll cage fitted and an 'open' engine.
I haven't researched this topic but I think the Honda "i" range is the quietened ones aimed at the RV market

George's 6.5kVA Honda is quieter than my 2kVA.
