Painting problem

Bruce, when cutting in with a brush prior to applying with a roller It is drying before I can brush it satisfactorily. I had planned to top coat it with epoxy enamel hoping to get a quite good finish. I am repainting the lower section of the bus after sanding it.

EDIT I tried approx 15% metho and it still dried to touch in less than 5 minutes and was drying as I brushed it.

there is a thinner for wattyl rust guard epoxy. I sprayed the bus using it. What ever you do, don't cut or polish it. It goes dull.

Jon, I am not up to the epoxy enamel yet, just having trouble with the primer drying too quickly.

Used to use wattyl rust guard a lot, don't think I ever had that problem. But it does dull over time that's for sure, changed to dulux epoxy rust guard and it's much better, have polished it and it looks great. Have also experimented with their clear coat epoxy rust guard for a friends farm jalopy last year and added metallic flakes into it, turned out really cool and now he wants to paint his truck the same way. Going to wait a few more months to see if it stands up in weather and driving, if so will do the bus metallic.

We have been doing a lot of painting recently as we purchased a new home . The cost of paint is frightening $500-00 goes nowhere. Just noticed Aldi is selling paint in their just out catalogue and it is pretty cheap compared to Bunnings just wonder about the quality.

I have spoken to Wattyl technical dept today and they feel it is faulty and have advised to return it and get another can but not of the same batch. I will do so tomorrow but am annoyed that it has caused a waste of 3 days of good weather for painting. i will report on the replacement.

Well, the replacement was no different so a refund has been accepted and my plans are now completely up in the air.

Talk to Wattyl about using there thinner based primer/filler and then top coating it with polyurethane paint. Both can be brushed as well as sprayed and the finish is almost as good as 2 pack cyanoacrylic 2K auto paint ..... just not quiet as tough and scratch resistant, but doesn't cause major reactions with any other paint finish under it (a reaction to the thinners used rather than the paint itself)

Thanks Terry. Stopped thinking about it today and replaced the deteriorated lexan panel in the bottom of the front door which enables me to see the roadside kerb.
