Almond hull fire

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Almond hull fire

Post by Greynomad »

News reported a fire in almond hulls at a factory in Carina West, between Murrayville & Loxton.
John (Riverlander), didn’t your mother warn you about playing with matches? You can’t stop the almond takeover of your area that way! :D

(Actually, firies say it was spontaneous combustion, a common problem with almond hull storage… and panelbeaters are probably going to have a problem getting sandblasting supplies. Many of them use crushed almond hulls, as it doesn’t damage the metal but removes duco efficiently.)
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Hi. Has been a couple of hull fires up here in the last twelve months. One at Swan Reach and one just out the road towards Renmark that burnt for a long time. Eventually they pulled the heap apart with loaders ( and the heap was quite massive ) as it would keep reigniting. I think most of the hulls from here are used to bulk up processed stock feed. Neighbour tried to use them for garden mulch but found they repelled water and the little bits of almond left in it attracted the mice.
Cheers John

Take note all those looking at building a traditional style boat ...... best look for a timber that doesn't self ignite ;)
