Bruce,
Most 5-door hatchbacks these days have ties connecting the rear of the parcel shelf to the hatch and hinge pins at the front, so when you lift the hatch the parcel shelf rises too.
Also, modern parcel shelves would sag if you put a bag of groceries on them… they're plastic and made primarily to conceal the boot contents, not carry anything. Safety dictates that we shouldn't keep stuff on the shelf anyway. In sudden braking it would become a missile.

Re: Good morning daily
That can't be possibly true Peter .... I was told I didn't know what I was talking about when I posted such nonsense on the old CMCA forum. How could an empty truck and dog tipper use more fuel than one loaded to the top with a cover over it ....Peter and Sandra wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 7:06 am An empty ute is less aerodynamic than one with a tonneau or canopy, box trailers are the same. I helped a mate move out west from Sydney years ago and on the return trip the second time we took the ute sides off and dropped the front and rear sides on the box trailer and it made a huge difference to fuel economy.
Apart from the weight on the load going west the ute used about a third more fuel on the first return trip empty and on the second trip with tray sides and trailer front and back laid flat it used a third less.
A ute tub body will use less if the tailgate is laid flat, in the US they sell mesh "tailgates" to lower fuel use.

Re: Good morning daily
If you were involved with anything speed that was something you learned fast.
When I was working in Esperance many years ago I delivered 15 head of cattle to a farm a few miles out of town, nice easy run out there against a slight headwind.
The farmer offered me some hungry boards to block the sides of the cattle crate,
"Nahh she'll be right "says smartie me.
Even with a slight tailwind I was pushing hard to get up to 50Mph.
Then the boss asked me when I got back, " didn't ....... offer you some hungry boards ?.
Red face and a quick learning curve, which reinforced the old saying "experience always costs you money".
Good thing I was only helping him out for the day.

The expert on book writing was backed up by all the experts on sitting in front of a keyboard on the old CMCA forum, they reckoned that didn't happen ..... so you must have been mistake about what you experienced in real life

Morning everyone, did you make it home Bob ?
Its been raining here sine around 10pm very heavy for some of it...I wont be surprised if we have some local flooding.
We made a draught skirt for the motorhome yesterday...so the wind don't blow up mine
We were going to Apple Tree today but that will be canceled because of this rain.

Re: Good morning daily
Good morning everyone. I had a lovely day yesterday doing nothing except being the birthday boy. Even had a good nights sleep for a change.
Bob, the rain down south was only just starting when we left. It was bloody hot all the way home. We have had mainly drizzle here, no real heavy stuff yet.
We will start cleaning up and getting yard work done today, all the Bougainvillea have water shoots everywhere.
Safe travels everybody, have a top day.
