Re: Good morning daily
Good morning one and all.
I put a outside (annex) LED light on the "winny" yesterday then waited till dark to see my effort, bugga not a wide enough spread . Back to the drawing board.
Seen a few wallaby's on my walk, they have been scarce since all the rain.
Not much else to say about yesterday.
Enjoy your Bowls Shirly.
Bernie.

Good morning everyone. Mowed grass and walked the dog was the sum of my efforts yesterday. Going for lunch with an old mate today, then having a few tests done for the doc late in the arvo. I hope you go well at bowls Shirley.
Safe travels everybody.

Re: Good morning daily
Couldn't find much detailed info but small vehicles just had a spline fit into the rear of the gearbox. Bigger vehicles (trucks/buses) have a spline in each section of tail shaft. (hanger bearing?) I'm not sure how they'd get it to line up unless they had some sort of funnel arrangement to direct it in to centre. Then you or they had to organise clutch, gear shift, fuel lines and electrical connections. Would be so much easier now days with 'drive by wire' controls like they're doing with a lot of outboard motors. (some trucks too of course)supersparky wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 11:29 pmDoes anyone know how it all connected to the drive line?
Must have been many problems as it wasn't continued with but since it was in 1939 & the Germans invaded ........................

Re: Good morning daily
The amount of power they made back then, probably a big elastic band connected at the gearbox and diffsupersparky wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 11:29 pmDoes anyone know how it all connected to the driveline?
Was the wheel out design for basic checking the oil and water levels etc, or for serious engine work that happened on a regular basis back then, the oil quality and metal for rings and bearings left a lot to be desired in the early days so regular head removal to to "decoke" was common practice.
A number of the rear engine buses had a chassis rail that slide inside the existing chassis rail with bolts through the two sections to hold it in place and strengthen the whole structure. The tailshaft bolts were removed, all the hoses and linkages, then a cradle jack slide under the engine/gearbox to support the weight and it was slide out. The rear suspension acted as a spreader to allow the clearance and the faces were coated with a wax based grease to stop it rusting or galling with a metal to metal friction problem.
Mostly done by the bigger tourist coach companies so they could do timed maintenance to avoid failures on the road.
