Ukraine and why it matters to the free world.
I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

I guess what the reality of it all is, what govts want the authorities to favour when determining exports and outside partnerships in future projects.
It is very clear from that list just why Russia wants control of the Ukraine, that is a lot of very valuable resources in both $$ terms and the ability to keep up with technology. Without having their own resources, any trade bans would really hurt the country as a whole

Seems this might be an item to watch carefully with the change of presidents in the USA.

Re: Ukraine and why it matters to the free world.
Keith, that's a great summary of Ukraine, wasn't aware of all that, but does make you think and realise now why Putin wants Ukraine.
Ukraine also has large stocks of enriched uranium, which they are now saying they will turn into small nukes if Nato the USA and others don't support them better, they have the ability and technical know how. They are also at the forefront of drone development, advanced military technology and weapons. One of their new inventions is an autonomous mounted or self mobile 7.62 machine gun which can be operated from a distance to protect the users.
Putin has make a massive mistake in invading Ukraine, what he's done is wake up a very powerful foe, one who is fast becoming a major military power and at the present rate, will defeat Russia. I reckon Ukraine is already well on the way to producing 100's of nukes as they already have the facilities and expertise seeing as they have previously had the largest number of nukes and who knows, maybe they still have some hidden away in their many underground bunkers and manufacturing facilities.

Re: Ukraine and why it matters to the free world.
The nuclear industry is well advanced in Ukraine, thanks to Russia’s decision to locate their biggest nuclear power plant at Chernobyl…
Just a pity it went pop.
But the Ukrainians still have the support infrastructure.
That could very well bode ill for Putin.

Miniature warheads on drones, designed to create electromagnetic pulses, while others are intended to hit strategic targets .... China knows what is coming, they are working on safeguarding he communications networks to protect against such attacks, Putin still thinks you can poison your way to total control, I'm not sure if the USA is thinking much at allnative pepper wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 10:58 am Keith, that's a great summary of Ukraine, wasn't aware of all that, but does make you think and realise now why Putin wants Ukraine.

Re: Ukraine and why it matters to the free world.
The USA has given Ukraine permission to use USA missiles to strike deep into Russia, so we may see a huge escalation very soon as Ukraine hits many military and industrial defence facilities. I watched a youtube video today called "Day: 998 Ukraine map", which comes out around every 2 days and gives up dates on what's happening and russia is suffering massive loses of men and equipment. Ukraine is already striking deep into Russia with its drones and being able to use very advanced missiles may make a huge difference.T1 Terry wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 8:35 pmMiniature warheads on drones, designed to create electromagnetic pulses, while others are intended to hit strategic targets .... As for the USA, it looks like when trump steps in there will be a huge upheaval as most of those he's chosen to run the country have to be passed by congress and it looks like almost none of them have the knowledge or experience to do the job. The world is fast spiralling into chaos and confusion, simple because the deluded ideological dreams of humanity are collapsing under the weight or reality. Interesting times ahead that's for sure and don't think we are going to come out of it unscathed, our wonderful political parties are seeing to that. They are so intelligent, everything they do turns to disaster, because ideological delusions can never become reality and that's been proved throughout history, but humans are to stupid to realise their fantasy approaches to life are actually destroying them.

Re: Ukraine and why it matters to the free world.
The post by Tanks on Ukraine is very informative.
But I'm sad to see that it has become a Political Football and the Trumph Tumph drum is being beaten again.
If I was still on Admin I would have shut down this subject and advised the participants to please keep their political views to themselves and off this Forum.
I agree we all have our political views, but if politics is allowed here on this forum, wait until I get into Religion.
There is a very good reason both are banned on the mess decks, mainly because it makes a mess whenever either ugly head is raised.

Much that passes as idealism is disguised hatred or disguised love of power.
