BOS370 Stabilizer Legs

Post by wayno »

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows anything about these BOS370 legs?

Here is a link https://bos370.com.au/product-category/stabiliser-leg/

The reason I ask is twofold,

1) They seem to offer a valid alternative to air bag suspension cost wise and offer more than air bag by having the ability to jack the whole van off the ground. A bit more farting around than air bag as far as levelling goes, but still very useful with Savvy Level installed. Better than mucking around with ramps and bits of wood I think. I like the idea of being able to lift the tyres off the ground safely, either side or both.

2) However, after doing some heavy duty Googling, I can't find any traces of tish canning or a ship load of praises either,
I have spoken to the Company and they seem to be happy just flying under the radar at this stage. All good, but I still want to hear from someone who may have seen these in operation or actually have them.

Bye for now

We have had a few vans in with them, but we didn't attempt to lift the wheels off the ground. Major problem was getting them standing up straight, the van had to be lifted to gain enough clearance to swing the leg down straight. One owner said we were the first to have used them, another said they only used them at what ever angle they could get them before the feet hit the ground and only used them for stability, not to level the van .... another said they had to take the feet off because the bottomed out going across fuel station driveways ....... The best system I've seen were incorporated into the front and back "bumper bars" on a Coaster. They slide out like the legs on a mobile crane, locking pins went through the bumper, then the legs screwed down, looked a lot like the jockey wheel leg often seen on a heavy van. It was only used to level the van, not lift the wheels off the ground, but maybe it could, the legs could be extended as well to cater for very uneven ground.
Naturally, the easiest to use are the hydraulic levelling systems, remote keypad to do the initial self level and then control of each leg to do the fine level bit. Mostly on the BIG vans that needed a Ram truck or the likes to tow it .....

The only thing that could really go wrong is the little wind-down thingy. Otherwise, it's just powder coated steel with a few bolts. Providing the steel is heavy duty and the coating good, things should be ok.

Hi T1,
Thought you would chime in :D
Yep, I understand the vertical drop requirement and hence I am considering a new van with a higher riser (semi or full off road).
Of course there will be a bit more side sail area to contend with, but that's OK with me and considering down sizing the length
down to 16-17ft single axle. All I need for me.

Many thanks for your input and appreciate it :)

Hi jon_d,
Yep, the liddle wind down thingy is a concern. It's a low ratio gear box, so does not seem to have to work too hard and should have
a nice big cog in there. However, the casing is a concern, I would prefer to see more metal.

Thanks for your feed back Jon_d

I guess we'll just have to watch this space for a while.

Be well and enjoy whatever your up to.

The other thing to consider is methods of spreading the weight where the foot hits the ground, how you are going to operate the lifting legs, impact drivers destroy the gears in the reduction drive bit. Then there are ants, mice and other unwanted visitors using the legs as access points into the van.
There are electric driven scissor jacks that can help lift the van in the low corner to get the leg straight up and down, but they would need to be mounted wider than just the chassis rails if there was much actual lifting involved rather than just stopping the movement of the suspension ......
