Telstra's Netgear Nighthawk M6 Pro

Post by wayno »

Hi all. I have had to sort out my communications here in Nagambie (central Victoria).

I was using a Optus wireless hot spot. No good at all, in fact useless. No streaming, poor connection and very problematic.
Some months earlier I knew my sister had dumped the NBN in favour of this topic's device. BTW, she lives in Surrey Hills, Melbourne.

So after many nights of disappointing connectivity I chose to go to the dark side. Yep, I signed up with Telstra.
Best decision I have ever made and proved the old adage, "You get what you pay for". :D
I like the portability, you just take it with you, home or caravan.

At this stage I am only picking up 4G, and could not be more impressed. Streaming, phone calls and device numbers are not a problem.
Not cheap, but I can say, on a plan there is no extra cost than buying outright.

Some food for thought and do some investigation yourselves.

Wayno ;)
Enjoying living in Central Victoria.

Been using that exact system for years. We don't have the N bloody N at home and the dongle does all of our interweb needs. We have rarely not had connectivity. I think we lost connections at Kings Canyon and that has been the only place. It works out a lot cheaper than the N bloody N too.

Hope you enjoy connectivity for many years to come.
Deborah

Bought this on Evilbay back in 2021 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/183901851528 We didn't bother with the two antenna heads on the same pole, we have one at the house and the other one we stick up on a pole when travelling, just turn it around until the bar graph reads the best and lock it in place. Picked up clear data signal (because that was the card we bought) out at the Nurrung camp ground, absolutely no Telstra or Optus signal out there, but we had a good 4 bars on Optus using this thing. It is the only computer connection for both our laptops at work and streaming TV at home. Gave up on the NBN and landlines and the wireless to base Aussie Broadband that was the original internet service for the workshop. Heaps cheaper per mth, all the data from all three phone accounts is useble over any of the cards/devices and the chance of us ever using up the the 280GB/mth is very unlikely. We often put visitors/customers onto the link as well, and even then we have never gone close .....

Vik we started using our first Gen nighthawk again and no problems except the battery. Found it goes flat quick so just keep it charged on all the time.

Actually ,that just rang a bell ...

The battery in ours swelled up like a honeymooners whatsaname and we had to the fight the young feral freaks in the Telstra shop to get it fixed under warranty , which finally got it back with a new batt... musta bin havin trouble ...???

Well just plugged this one in and it was flat as a tack , be interesting to see how long it holds a charge ...

Might even get my van built this year to go for a spin ...

Yes, my sister told the NBN to bend over and cop it two years ago.
She put me on to it.
Just imagine when more more 5g rolls out.
