A real gem of a freecamp! No. 663 (Camps6) just north of Whyalla, it is on the waterfront, toilet, shower (cold) and a 14 day limit. The weather is currently perfect and apparently there are squid waiting to be caught off the shore.
From the Flinders Ranges I worked my way down to Port Augusta for some sightseeing and shopping, then to Whyalla, a quick look before heading here but I plan to again look around on my way thru Whyalla when I leave here. I've been staying at freecamps whenever possible, finding that the critical factor is water! My 30L tank gets filled whenever possible and as some sources are a bit doubtful I mainly use it for cooking/cleaning; I'm finding it challenging to find places to refill from. I also carry a 10L container for drinking water and I buy casks of drinking water from grocery stores to refill it.
While the sun shines and/or I'm traveling, the batteries stay topped up, but if I'm stopped and the weather is poor, the solar panels can't keep up with the ever power draining fridge so I am thinking of food alternatives that don't need refrigeration without relying heavily on processed foods. Ah, the challenges of the road!

Re: Point Lowly, SA
We've also stayed there.
TWO DAYS a prisoner of horizontal rain!
Wind-blasts so strong that Girt rocked... even though her stabiliser rams were down!
When it finally cleared, we found it IS a beautiful place.
Loki, you'll find that off Point Lowly is the breeding ground for the Australian Giant Squid.
Not sure that fishing is allowed there... they're protected in the breeding ground, and I think either endangered or vulnerable to extinction.
There are signs near the lighthouse which explain it all.
Enjoy the peninsula...
