Re: Good morning daily
Terry there is parking bay after the tunnels just before the last arrester bed but most of the trucks don't make it that far, they usually use the one before the tunnel, maybe the parking bay could be used more for an arrester bed???. When you think of the amount of trucks going down that hill and the amount of mishaps the road is quite good. Go down the old road (eagle on the hill) to see the difference and nearly all accidents are driver error (drugs) or unroadworthy vehicles. I think the drivers don't realize the hill is so long nor steep and only find out when in trouble. Not many crap trucks on the road these days. I remember the hill Pretty Sally in Victoria back in the 1950's you could hear their breaks miles away but a few used Angel gear to be smart and came to a bad end. I choose my truck to follow down there when in the bus.
Queen of the Banal & OT chatter and proud of it. If it offends you then tough titty titty bang bang.

Good morning everyone. We are at Dunedoo. Saw Bernie yesty in the Road Runner, little car following behind nicely. Nowhere to pull over for a yack though.
Dunno where we'll get to today. It's a bit cool out and about, but good weather to be driving. Safe travels everybody.

Good morning All. Rain overnight and had a heavy shower 5 minutes ago, so much for sanding the deck.

Morning all.
Phoenix is not well. Could be a bit serious. Completely off his food and water. Accepting water via a syringe squirting into his mouth. Vet did bloods yesterday.
I'm hoping he hasn't had a bad reaction to some tablets the vet gave last week for some inflammation.

Re: Good morning daily
If it relies on exhaust brakes, then no, if it has Jake brakes and they it is working correctly, then yes .... basically, an exhaust brake is struggling to hold back a single trailer with a legal load and the driver should know that, but the cowboys that are steering trucks these days just don't have the experience to understand the limitations of the vehicle they are driving.
The next piece of insanity is the way drivers are trained and tested, especially in NSW. It is not permitted to go back through the gears while stopping or slowing for a corner for the purpose of slowing the vehicle, the lower gear must be selected before the situation requires the rig to reduce speed, in other words, no braking and double clutch or slipping neutral and revving the engine to speed match the ratios in the gearbox to make a smooth shift in the likes of a bush-ranger gearbox where there are no sincros ..... the testing officers logic is, if you miss a gear then there is no engine braking and it is illegal to approach an intersection or at any time the truck is moving to have gearbox disengaged, including the foot on the clutch ...... best not to reach the traffic lights in the top end of the box because the revs are pulled so low at the point of stopping the whole drive train suffers and you fail anyway ..... An absolutely stupid rule, but I'm guessing a student must have missed a gear slowing for an intersection and a boss testing officer was in the vehicle and they had a crash ..... the testing officer is the responsible operator in these cases and often, the testing officer does not hold the class of licence he his testing the student's level of competence .... in the case of an accident, the testing officer would be held accountable ... when the courts discover he is actually unlicensed to actually be the person in the vehicle with the student driver ..... all hell breaks loose ...... so the rule is, the speed must be under the limit of the vehicle's foot braking to stop at any time ....... absolutely stupid, but that is the reason the sign says before the decent starts, all heavy vehicles must be in low gear .....
This does not mean they must be in the lowest gear available in the ratio choices, it means in the gear that the engine can hold the truck and load below the signed speed limit ..... in other words, no brake application at all .....
Yeah I know, that rule isn't enforced unless the inspector wants to pull the truck over for other reasons ... or there is an accident, then the "driver was not in full control of the vehicle and the loaded trailer/s" no wonder no one wants to be a truck driver these days

To make matters worse, most signs state, Trucks and Buses, not heavy vehicles and in my case my vehicle is a registered Motorhome, by definition not a truck or a bus.
