Warmer weather drives Aussies north
Monday, 15 April 2013
With the mercury dropping down south, Queensland’s caravan and tourist parks are preparing for the annual winter pilgrimage which sees thousands of visitors from Australia’s southern states head north in search of warmth.
It follows a strong Easter period and school holidays for the local tourism industry.
Winter is one of the peak seasons for Queensland’s touring holiday industry as “grey nomads” escape the southern chill and fill up the state’s caravan tourist parks.
Caravanning Queensland CEO Ron Chapman said despite the recent heavy rain, forward bookings at Queensland’s caravan and tourist parks were higher than last year, giving the industry greater confidence of a strong season ahead.
“From New South Wales and Victoria, across to South Australia, Queensland is the first choice for those wanting to desert their cold home towns and discover some of the country’s best destinations,” he said.
“It’s not surprising that southerners crave a winter pilgrimage to Queensland, which always provides an extra boost to the local tourism industry.
“It’s become a bit of a tradition for winter pilgrims to arrive in our state after Easter, staying for a short time or for the entire season. Many have a favourite spot, while others will take the opportunity to explore different places with each trip."
The annual winter pilgrimage comes just in time for one of Australia’s largest caravan shows, the Queensland Caravan, Camping and Touring Holiday Show, which will set up camp in Brisbane from the 5 to 11 June 2013.

Re: Warmer weather drives Aussies north
I wasn't thinking that far south
Going down to Maryborough and stopping at Blazeaid at Monto to lend a hand for a couple of days on the way then after Maryborough across to Kingaroy for a week or so to see family. And also get family to put a new awning on Wilbor
But maybe next year we may be able to come to some sort of arrangement if you would like to setup in NQ for winter/spring while we go to west and end up in Tassie

Rob,
While in Kingaroy, do visit the Kingaroy Biscuit factory. Not only do they do a great job with amazing people, but the bickies are the best commercially made ones that you will find. They are very close to home made and just wonderful people. Enjoy the travels.
