Solar 3 phase system install

Bill, I'm thinking that if you have 20kw on tap, then whatever your standby losses are with your system are, you will have it covered. If it's deemed excessive, then you might have to shut down certain areas or circuits til the sun pops up in the morn.
On another note, were you under threat in the recent fires?

Hi David, got down to 60% overnight, would have been less but got up early as wife is going to Brisbane on the bus this morning. One good thing is that solar input started before 5, even though sun was buried behind a hill.
We have a VERY old electric range that is headed to the tip when I find the best induction range I can. Similarly the old 50" plasma TV seems to suck about 600 watts so that will be looked at as well.We have a large gas commercial oven we can use for the big cooks, plus 8 burner BBQ and wood burning pizza oven.
There were 2 aircons on standby last night, they will not be on tonight. We run an aircon (small 1.6) in the wine ageing room 24/7, doesn;t need to run at night when it is this cool so that will be on a time clock by tonight.
Few incandescent bulbs to replace as well will see our useage drop even further.
I am confident with a few changes like this we have more than enough "juice"
The fires did not affect us, we got 15ml on Friday and 48 on Saturday but lots of smoke of course, we do not want that when grapes get a bit more ripe, not worth harvesting if that happens. The whole town was on tenterhooks, nothing else talked about.
How did your friends at Dalveen fare ? Came past there on Saturday, poles on highway still burning but did not seem to come real close to the village.

I noticed this morning that it's getting light at about 4am.
Do some of your panels face east? I reckon everyone should convert all lighting to LED'S.
The little village at Dalveen was lucky enough to have the worst of the fires go to the north and west, so all ok there.

50% of our panels face east and 50% west, not as efficient as if they all faced north but we didn't have that choice.

Hot water at the moment is single element 150 ltr storage, plenty of oomff during the day to heat (on a timer, middle of day only)

All panels face west, so put up more to compensate for winter, if necessary will put up another string facing north, will see how it goes, even facing west in winter I think will be enough, battery was full by 8:30 this morning.

Will have to fine tune settings according to installer, perhaps limit charging to 50 amps as the battery ran over by a few millivolts this morning and the inverter immediately shut off AC out. Then came back on, not a biggie I think, just part of commisionning process.

Sounds like you have it covered now, just a minor tweak here and there.
Now I'm going to have to get the app for our inverter and see when my system starts seeing some input. I've been going to do that for a while now.

One of the systems we installed had so much solar we had to find loads to apply as the battery approached the 98% SOC mark to stop it over shooting the upper voltage limit. We used the hot water system with a switching relay driven by the hot water thermostat, to power the air conditioning once the water was up to temperature, but this solar array was putting in around 300 amps @ 29v at the peak of the day Even if they drained the whole 1200 Ah over night, the battery was fully recharged well before mid day, even with 5 families all holidaying at the place .... all city mains power type people, so no idea about conserving battery storage when the sun wasn't out ....
