Woke Veggies

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

A year or so ago, we were at the inlaws place. The vegan cousins from Melbourne lobbed for the weekend. I cooked some of my normal recipe sausage rolls and some using the plant based meat substitute. The next day I gave the cousins some real sausage rolls to eat. They loved 'em. I didn't let on that they were non plant based meat substitute.
The young kids loved 'em too. They still don't know.
Do you think I'll go to hell for that?

I don't get the advertising though. If it's not animal based meat why call it plant based meat? Why not call it like it is, disgusting tasteless crap??
Ray, do you think that you might be able to find meat based potatoes?
Cheers

Could be the education and intelligence of the young has slipped, know there's lots of young people who don't have a clue where their food comes from, just maccas, or from a shop packet and milk is a prime example.

The problem with all the modern plant based supposed vegan products is, they have lots of chemicals and additives in them to give flavour and the times I tried them, made me sick. The vegans I know are that way because of their health and that includes me, but it has the bonus of providing a much better life style as I've aged. Love the smell of roasted coffee, but can't drink it and also like the smell of a BBQ, but no good for me at all.

And don't discount fresh baked bread in the morning, with the aroma wafting through the house.
If you set the bread machine for 6:30am completed cycle it's almost worth getting out of bed early on a Sunday.
Keith.
I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Still raining here so stuck inside until it stops.

Depends on the type of bread you're making Keith. True the smell of fresh bread is enticing, irrelevant as to it's make up. Many times on the road woke up around a small town, smelling the local bakers bread and it's a nice smell.

Don't have a bread machine, the wholemeal flour I grind from organic wheat, tends to clog up bread machines and I like kneading my bread by hand, strengthens your muscles and bones. Takes me about 20 minutes from grinding to rising stage, just fresh flour, water and yeast, which grow myself. Just mix it up, knead for a couple of minutes, stick in the bread tin, or for rolls flat tray, sit in warm place for an hour then into the oven for around 40 minutes, depending on whether using the electric or wood stove. The wood stove produces the best bread and for that matter, the best cooking taste of everything in my opinion. Sometimes add sunflower seeds, banana, or other grains when feel like some flavour, but prefer plain bread. Even make sultana bread with a touch of honey and always put banana in those as it softens the bread and adds a nice soft creamy taste, if you put the sultanas into a blender with some other dried fruits then add to bread mix, you get a really tasty treat laced with different flavours.

Peanut butter bread is scrumptious with avocado on top and some home made blackberry jam or apricot jam, which by the way don't cook, or add sweeteners. Just blend into sealed jars and stow in cool room, or freeze for luscious winter frozen snacks. You put a mixture of frozen fruit into the blender, then it comes out like ice cream, you can also add nuts, like cashews, almonds and the best is macadamia nuts and peanuts. The peanut butter is from a wholefood shop that makes it from unsprayed Australian peanuts and it's really nice, the dogs love it on toast for breakfast, they lick their plates clean without dropping anything on their couches, or scoffing the crumps up. Buy my peanuts in bulk, they stay fresh for months when stored in a cool room and my cool room is pretty unique in it's operation. It's a 20ft insulated container got cheap as the cooling unit was stuffed, dug a hole into the hill on the sth side of the house stuck it in and covered it. Sealed one of the front doors so only one would open and that took a lot of messing round and experimenting. Got some peilter units installed them with small pipes vents above them and connected them to solar panels above the ground. When the sun shines the room cools, on a cold winter day with the sun shining, it can get down to 1deg, but sits between 2-5deg all year round and only rises when the doors open. If you don't open the door for a couple of days with no sun it will be sitting at 5 deg. It has a fire wall in front of it that shades the door and also stops fire effecting it. Works really well, much better than the freezer tried to make from an old cool room using solar, it's still in the hope can solve the problems associated with the concept.
