Night time leg cramps

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Salt is good for cramps, as long as you don’t have ridiculous amounts. :?

Standing on cold floor tiles helps a lot.

Dot, my cramps were mainly in the upper thigh and Quads. Hit like I’d been shot and hard enough to damage muscle tissue. After effects akin to a corked thigh Footy injury. Massage, standing on tippie toe, hot packs, did nothing to reduce them at the time. The kind of cramps those on Kidney Dialysis describe, pain in the 8 out of 10 range. Every folk remedy I tried dis not help hence the science based approach to cause and effect.

Thos higher up cramps are nasty for sure harder to get to, I get them in my neck now, one was so bad I actually got in the shower COLD it shocked the muscles I think but I don't think I shall do that One must also try to concentrate on their breathing, it does help.

Dot, I have been getting cramps in the left side of my neck for a few years, first time I thought I was having a stroke, I had a CT scan of the neck all appeared ok, fortunately they don’t last long not a good feeling.
I get cramps in my legs at night, take magnesium tablets & eat a little salt seems to help.
George, Bruce’s mother always use to stand on cold tiles to relieve leg cramps.

Just another complaint to add to the age process I reckon. :?

My blinding migraines are caused by muscle spasms in the neck crushing the nerves that radiate across the skull and around the eyes. The best relief I've found is massaging V o l t a r e n 12 hr gel into the neck, working from the shoulders up to under the skull, each ropey muscle at a time, till it relaxes enough to get some reasonable head rotation and side to side flex. Often takes two applications, but after 20 yrs of trying everything, including having the nerves burnt using radio therapy, this seems to be the thing that works best.

I must admit, standing under a hot shower and just letting the water run on my neck and letting the heat soak in is a good second option 8-)

Quick Postscript to my original post. Dr visit today to check on my progress from Anaemia to being again eligible as a Blood Donor. Haemoglobin level is up from 117 to 149. All my blood works currently look like a 35 year old non-drinker has supplied the samples. No need for B12 Infusions. I have not had a single cramp since about a month after I started paying attention to my Feritin levels. Blood Bank declined my offer to donate blood on 3 Jan this year so I'm suggesting it's not a quick process to get over a low iron count. I'm booked in for my 213 whole blood donation in two weeks time.

I took note of your advice about taking iron on a high acid stomach, changed taking the somac till the evenings but still taking the multivitamins in the morning with the other snack pack of pills. Time will tell I guess, had hand cramps a few days back, but more likely due to working with the cameras and cables for days caused that, it cleared up fairly quickly. The calves in the lower leg are aching tonight, but that was probably from standing for hrs (felt like it anyway) minding the dog while Margaret shopped in Coles at Narrandera.

HEHE you need to talk to your doctor and get a letter for Emotional support dog. Works a treat, can now go every where except for the home care building. I can buy food from freezer but not take part in activities or bus trips. Went to the men's shed but they were shut.
Lions have offered transport when they can get volunteer for a donation. Might come in handy, instead of $800+ in cab to Adelaide and back. Just as well it comes out my package.
