Good morning everyone.
I went out to the motorhome and started the diesel heater... all good I have left it on. That was a hour ago.
Running the new cable was a pain, I had to dismantle both bed's, heater under one batteries under the other.
I will do another test when everything is turned on... fridge...
That was the crux of yesterday.
Haven't any plans for today as yet
Herself is still in bed
Keep safe and warm Jon.
Bernie.
I don't have a DC to DC charger I need 24v to 12v what's out there?

Re: Good morning daily
Big job Bernie.
You might want to test it prior to going on a trip.
Wouldn't want it not to work after promising a roasty toasty moatie homie.

Re: Good morning daily
Both Victron and Enerdrive make units that will handle charging lithium batteries without overheating and either failing or dialling back the output until it's virtually useless like the Redarc unit.BernieQ2 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 5:44 am Good morning everyone.

These are the only units we found over the 12yrs doing lithium installations that worked without fail. The Enerdrive unit needs the screws tightened regularly, or the connections get hot and the heat transfers inside the unit causing a melt down, the Victron unit crushes the cable/ferrule and has a better vibration resistance against the contact faces loosening, and it can be programmed via a smart phone and has a remote on/off circuit that can be driven manually or via an active smart BMS .... one that is triggered by cell voltages rather than over all battery voltage

Re: Good morning daily
As far as the diesel heater goes, relocate it to an easier access area, they do need regular servicing so having to dismantle half the motorhome to access it is a good idea in the long term. Ours is mounted under the false floor in a cupboard, simply unpack the shelf and lift the floor piece out for easy access, the underside is in a bin, so also relatively easy access ... in our build, it is where the 4 x 25 ltr plastic water containers make up the black water tank arrangement. It does slide out on the drawer where the generator was mounted ... but still a bugger to access ....BernieQ2 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 5:44 am Good morning everyone.

Re: Good morning daily
The Victron DC-DC does get quite hot. The latest version doesn't and has some constant current settings.
There is quite a lot of discussion about them and heat on various forums.
eg: https://community.victronenergy.com/que ... 0-hot.html
The latest version; eg https://www.springers.com.au/shop/ori12 ... rger-17643?
allows you to set the bulk current rate which helps control the heat. Bit more expensive though.
I'd think twice about getting the cheap model.

That Victron says 12/12 Jon. I need 24/12...or am I not reading it correctly.

Arvo all, a bright sunny day today, have had my treatment with AJ and now we are off outside to see what really needs doing. Man coming to prune the trees (fruit) sometime this week. Happy humping day as David would say

Re: Good morning daily
Bernie, you're correct. 12 in, 12 out.
I don't think they make a 24-12 Orion XS model.

Re: Good morning daily
This is the 24/12 30 amp unit that talks to your phone https://www.victronenergy.com/dc-dc-con ... #downloads
Beware, there is a 24/12 70 amp unit advertised, this is designed to power 12v items from a 24v battery, not to charge a 12v battery. The 12v output voltage is not high enough to act as a charger, nor are any of the cut in/cut out or output voltages adjustable.
The enerdrive DC to DC will charge up to 50 amps to a 12v lithium battery and you can program voltages for the unit to turn on and off to protect the start battery, bulk/absorption voltage and float to the 12v battery and a 2 stage charging regime that better suits lithium batteries. Best to use the "custom" program (last selection across the top of the programming screen) to set up exactly what you want the charger to do .... but it can't talk to your phone, you have to look at the screen to see what it's doing
