A person may fail many times, they only become a failure when they blame someone else John Burrows

This one looks interesting for those with a big van or 5'er https://ausev.com.au/lightning/

Towing a big van would probably reduce range by 1/3 to 1/2, so around 250-300klm before recharging. Which is about the same as an ICE vehicle towing a big van.

Re: What's new in the EV market for this year
Not many towing a big van drive 250 to 300kms at a time anyway, but even if you did, stop for lunch at the charging station and a hr later, you have enough charge for the next 200kms. Besides Petels, , you be hard pushed to find a caravanner or 5'er tug driver thar does 450km a day ....native pepper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 2:03 pm Towing a big van would probably reduce range by 1/3 to 1/2, so around 250-300klm before recharging. Terry, to travel up north you need a minimum range of 600k and charging stations are nonexistent. The only way to charge a electric vehicle is from a diesel generator.

What about the solar and inverter? Might need to stop up for a while longer, but not stranded ..... good reason to increase the solar, you know you want too

Taken from a road test report
We took the updated Tesla Model 3 Long Range from Sydney to Melbourne and back to test its range and get an idea of the challenges of road tripping in an EV. The claim of 629km is achievable in city driving but 110km/h stints sap the range. We found we needed to recharge after about 500km of freeway driving.16 Apr 2024

That's Sydney to Albury, I'd need to stop for discharge and recharge well before thenbob r wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 10:34 am Taken from a road test report

I would doubt they would stop to recharge if it didn't need it.

Re: What's new in the EV market for this year
Ever heard of the line "Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story"

Another motoring reporter got caught out trying to get his loaner Tesla to stop before he reached a charging station. Tesla's computer network showed he drove up and down a carpark for close on an hr after the Tesla computer said zero range remaining ... but he still couldn't get it to come to a stop due to lack of battery capacity.
Here is a real world test of how much is left after the computer says the battery has zero range left https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y675YCgSnlc and a handy "jerry can" if you really do drive it until it stops
