Do you have a link Dottie? Air con works best for window demisting, pulls the water out of the air before heating it or cooling it, depending on the required adjustment for comfortDot wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:50 pm Missed last night as went to sleep in the chair and woke up freezing. Went to Specsavers today, I got a pair of bifocals plus a pair just for reading. G got a pr of graduated bifocals he spent more than I did. Not much change in either of our tests, happy with that. Dam cold today though, had a bit of rain on the way home. No scones made Deborah, turned out the visitors RnB and Molly had to cancel as he had a sore throat and was quite tired. I have to be up early tomorrow as bus has to be at mechanics at 8am![]()
.Had a text from AJ, she isn't feeling well and is sleeping a lot hmmmm not going to mention the C word... Q/ Has anyone ever tried those 12 volt windscreen demisters, I would like one for the bus. Popped into the Sallies for a look, how greedy are this lot? There were some scabby looking flannelette shirts there for $15
brand new ones in Kmart and thicker for $10. disgusting, then a baby's singlet (used) for $3. And they have the cheek to say they are there to help people. Enough of a rant, tea time now, and goodnight everyone x
Goodnight Peter and Sandra x

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
hahahaha I love it!!
Specsavers sent me an email saying "We have a new pair of specs waiting for you, etc etc"
I was in the shopping centre & thought "why not?"
I walked in & said I was there to pick up my glasses that they told me about....
Yep, wait over there yada yada....
Nope, you said they are waiting for me, not me waiting for them! lol
Walked out leaving a disgusted look on her face!

Oh you are naughty Bruce
Terry the windscreen demister is for the bus windscreen, you put them on the dash. I just googled them on ebay.
Now for a good Winge, booked the bus in to the Diesel mechanic for an all over safety check, and service, plus to take it for a drive to make sure brakes steering and to check that the gears are going in their right places because sometimes I find that going from 3rd to 2nd is rather "tight" plus a check on all belts etc. Picked the bus up and all he did was a "service like oils , No test drive etc as asked and his reasoning that he doesn't do motor/ mechanical repairs plus he doesn't have the right license. I am popping in to see him tomorrow to find out where he got his qualifications from??? $374 the grease monkey charged. Why don't people listen to what you tell / ask them??? I have not found one decent diesel mechanic since the one we had just after we got the bus, he had to retire as he stuffed his back. This Guy's letter head says Auto Electricals' Diesel Repairs. Hmm Hope your tradies were a bit better Deborah. Had a ripper of a cramp / spasm from my neck and down my L) side took the wind out of my sails for sure wow they hurt. AJ rang me today said it was her chronic fatigue syndrome that kicked in again , feeling a bit better. My M8 in NZ got her 2 rescued donkeys today to keep her donkey company after her other one died, they are so cute. Keep warm everyone Goodnight to everyone and hope all the sickies are doing better x

Dot is your bus/MH registered as a caravan vehicle or a bus etc?
SA does not require annual road worthy inspections any more like some states & WAS in SA a while ago.
Not many people know about it.

From 1 August 2020, the requirement for RAVs to undergo an annual inspection, or to be in the Maintenance Module of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme, is removed. This also removes the need for an inspection label. You still need to ensure any vehicle you operate is roadworthy.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
500w will heat the air blowing on the windscreen very little, it's a big area and probably the bottom bit in a V from the demister vent will be all that is actually demisted ..... the droplets above it will increase in size and run down the inside of the windscreen .... and only on your side ... you would need two units, one for each side to get a half a*sed demisting result ... and each 500w unit will draw 42 amps, so not a cigarette lighter powered type device even if they have a cigarette lighter plug on the end .....
Is the heater/demister not working in your bus Dottie? Maybe George can rig up a diesel heater up front to do the heating and demisting, a 5kw diesel heater will pump out 10 times the heat and 20 times the amount of air those toy things will do and actually demist the whole windscreen ..... for around $100 for the Chinese units on evilbay.
In SA, there is no laws to say you have to be a qualified mechanic to say you do automotive electrical and diesel repairs ..... but if they do safety related work, like brakes or steering or suspension, it can come back to bite them if they aren't qualified ...... many won't drive a vehicle these days, and especially a heavy vehicle, because the insurance to test drive on the road is the killer, there would have to be a charge of a few hundred $$ min to test drive a car, shudder to think what they'd charge for a heavy vehicle test drive insurance.Dot wrote:

Our motorhome goes in soon to an actual NSW licenced heavy vehicle mechanical workshop to have the same thing basically as you requested ..... if I get change from a grand I'll be surprised.
Thanks Dottie, I love you tooDot wrote:

In simple terms, $375 for labour and parts is chicken feed compared to what it would have cost to get qualified and insured heavy vehicle mechanic to do what you asked ..... and who can afford that on a regular basis, and enough of those people to do the same thing that would bring in enough money to keep the doors open.
If you really want a workshop who will do the repairs you've asked for, Gears and Cogs in Mannum have the staff and know how ..... but don't expect to get away with a bill like $375 .....

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Gee Dot, those mechanics sound super dodgy. I think you may have escaped lightly. It's seriously expensive owning any kind of vehicle these days. I had to have my rego inspection done today. I asked for a service while they had the car. Yep they changed the oils and then found the drive belt in dire need of replacing. I collected the car and I was $800 lighter. Good luck finding a better mech next time mate. xxxx
Today, I had a good look at yesterday's shattered glass experiment.
This is what it looked like before firing. Today, it was too hot to handle, but this is how it looks. Very happy with the depth of colour. It will have a thick edging, like fluffy cotton wool, that has to be removed tomorrow. The white edging material prevents the stainless steel mold from damaging the glass. It will be time consuming, but after sanding and grinding the edges, it can go back into the kiln. It won't have the edging around it and I will be hoping to get it molten enough to flow into a much thinner piece. Currently it's about 2 cm thick.
Today, I took down to the shed, some of the pendants that have suffered from bits broken off in travel and took a long time to repair and/or strengthen their funny legs. I made up a few new ones too, but until I sell a lot more, I am trying not to get carried away making more jewellery.
Take care out there, they are all mad.

Bruce the bus is down as Caravan / vehicle. I knew we don't have to do the yearly "over the pits thing " I just wanted a competent diesel mechanic to do a good all over safety check before we headed off sometime. To me a test drive for steering, brakes and anything out of the ordinary (noise) would be the way to go. We usually do the oils, waters, filters and the simple things but we have no idea about the motor/ gear box. that was the reason we took it to this UNdiesel place.... He even had the audacity to tell us to go to Mt Barker bus and truck.. Anyway as I was bringing the bus home I started to have a ?pain in my L) arm so I pulled up until it subsided a bit. It eased a bit so only 500mts to home I got down the driveway and was turning ready to back up when the pain really got me so much I had to let go of the wheel which made my R) hand pull down thus catching the sheds guttering into the door (the Perspex) I couldn't open the door.. I turned off the bus and slid out the emergency door Had to sit down as couldn't breathe because the pain was also going down my back (right side) Made my way inside and waited for Gman to come home. Thought I was having a heart attack for a mo . It was a cramp / spasm. Laid down, G rubbed me with stuff and the muscles relaxed a bit. Just sore today and had a treatment with AJ and feeling better. Now a new door for the bus insurance out of pocket $780. I am going to get the old one fixed (new Perspex) and flog it off. And that was my day..

Well done RnB, You will find him (Jegan) Spelling, a straight to the point, no mucking about japping but he does have a sence of humor when you get to know him. Tell him Dot Beaumont said he was more handsome than his bro.RobertNotBob wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 9:56 pm Night Dot bit of luck with the hip surgeon brother of your surgeon they contacted me today to say they had my Doctor referral and had a canceled appointment for tomorrow they offered me.
