T1,
GIRT’s genny was built-in. A 5.5kVa Onan.
Is yours the same?
Gunna be difficult disentangling the wiring if you have the same remote start button on your power panel.
Removing that button will leave a hole that you’ll have to fill with something.
Removing the genny will also affect the resale value… if you’re considering an upgrade later. Might be easier to leave it in place and just ignore it.
No plans on selling this one to upgrade, as far as the resale value, being set up as fully off grid and not requiring a generator will increase its value, not reduce it .....

My Onan 2300 wouldn't run took it to the Onan guru's in Sydney and was told it was the carby ($950) bought an after market one ($56) put it on still wouldn't run. Daughter rang a generator place near home he looked at it and diagnosed the fuel pump which he replaced still wouldn't run put the old carby back in and it worked.

Think I'll put this job on the back burner, pull the thing out and give it good check over to find out all its problems ..... do it up and put it on the market.
I managed to rescue the roller/bender from the workshop remains, need to spend a day or 10 removing the rust and getting it working, then I can roll the custom shapes for the roof to get the solar over all the vents in the roof .... I'll take the all weather cowls off, and the wind up lids and replace them with sliding flat lids, then the solar panels can fit over them ..... that will keep the rain out but still allow airflow when required ...
Yet to determine what to do with the satellite dish and the wind up tv antenna, maybe move them closer to the rooftop rattler because it would be a tad tricky to put solar panels there, there is a vent in front of the rattler .... yet to determine if I fit solar over it or use it as the alternate sat dish or tv antenna site ..... the sat dish could go on a pole on the back, or maybe a pole for a Yagi antenna for the mobile phone booster, then do away with the sat dish and the tv antenna ..... future projects I'm thinking ...... need solar, batteries, inverter up sized, engine torn down to see what it needs, new heads from the states are only around AUD$2,200 .... up to double that for the newest double thickness cast heads complete with Stellite valve seats, so still not outrageously expensive to fix if worst comes to worst .....

Bruce has come to the rescue with a workshop manual complete with fault codes so I can diagnose just what is wrong with it. I'll start with the obvious ones, fuel flow and pressure, and go from there ..... I'm sure I can find a good use for the bin where the generator lives now, once I remove it

Lots of things planned...
Don't forget trips away.
The plan is to make it comfortable to live in as well as reliable, this is our only place of residence now, so it has to function the way we want, before we head back on the road. I expect it won't be before the New Yr, that gives us 3 mths to get stuff sorted, both with the motorhome, the house block with what looks to be a drawn out battle with NRMA, and getting this workshop block back into acceptable condition ..... I'm confident we can do it, that's we as in, not on my own, but with Margaret's assistance
