Re: Good morning daily
Terry, just while you're talking airco, have a look at the unit that Bernie fitted to his Hino. They make a much bigger (more efficient?) One that supposedly is the recommended one for 7m+ vans. Not much more than Bernie paid for his, and the same footprint I reckon.
Cheers

Re: Good morning daily
This unit https://www.airconditioning-online.com. ... ystem-r32/ 100 mm lower profile, narrower and way shorter than the Ibus 4 .... and no compressor on the roof, so the drumming noisy part is below floor level so shouldn't drum through the whole inside area ..... doesn't bother me, Margaret can't sleep with it running .... and with the sample 26*C over night, a fan just doesn't cut it.
The 7kw unit is the same ceiling unit size, but the outside unit is quite a bit bigger, so I'd have to find somewhere for that to live .... not sure if mounted on the back would actually just move the noise to above our heads at night
I think the rooftop rattlers are maxxed out at 3.5kw to 3.6kw, not sure if I should just go with thr 5 kw or the bigger 7.1kw units
This is a bit of Deja vu I'm feeling .....

Re: Good morning daily
Jon some of those figures are deceptive.
Most do a little bragging but besides that, A MH just like a houseboat has no comparison to a 'well designed' house which the standard figures are for.
All the metal (of all sorts) plus windows come into play.
My 'big' 7.1Kw unit was told was just too big & not needed but in reality it only just does the job.
It is what they call an inverter unit & I'd rather it come on & off a bit rather than hear it belting away at full steam.
Terry you have to remember you are parked in a yard of concrete & stones rather than somewhere under a tree & on green grass!! Buildings, fences & hedges around you wouldn't help much either.

Re: Good morning daily
I understand Bruce.
As I've mentioned before; I have a 2.6kw cheapy Akai in the bus. It's been parked down at Port Fairy, no shade, 38 +, massive hot wind and was quite comfortable. Not 20* but around 25-26 or so.
This site suggests a 3.5 for a room type "D"
https://www.airconditioning-online.com. ... alculator/?
Others suggest my size.
A 5 or 7 is probably over the top. Just consumes what limited space you have. And becomes very inefficient on most typical days of use.

Re: Good morning daily
That was the sort of information I needed Bruce, the 7.1Kw unit is just enough for the houseboat .... and it is built from cool room foam sandwich panel. The solar panel tropical roof affect will help, better reflective tint on the windows etc, and the new shade awning I just bought to cover the sides when parked up, and a new 20 ft awning for the passenger side, should keep the sun off the walls and windows.BruceS wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 6:02 pm Jon some of those figures are deceptive.

No use parking under a shady tree, unless you can plug into a power point, green grass only grows where it gets watered regularly anywhere in a South Australian in the summer, everywhere else is rocks .... Murray Bridge even has fake grass in its nature strips

The house got away with a 5Kw and a 2.5Kw in the lounge room to cool/warm the area where the bigger air con didn't circulate the air, 2.5Kw units in each bedroom and 6 ceiling fans to move the air around .... yet there were days that everything had to be shut, curtains drawn and anything that cooled was running .....
I still have it fresh in my mind, pulling up at the Nullabour road house at 5 pm, the Hino had been boiling for the last few hundred kms, travelling a between 50km/h and 70km/h .... it was just a matter of "keep driving, you'll die out here in this heat". It had a tropical roof of solar panels and split system inverter 3.5Kw air con, a big box fan moving the cold air through the rest of vehicle ..... and it was stifling hot still. Even at 5pm, letting the engine run at a fast idle for 15 mins, it never stopped boiling, just not enough difference between the ambient temp and the cooling system temp to get it below boiling ...... we just turned it off and went inside till the sun went down, then drove on through the night.
Never want to be in that situation again, so I want to build this motorhome to not just survive in, but live in .... after all, this is our only house now .....

Re: Good morning daily
Good morning everyone.
We have a 7.1 inverter aircon in the lounge/kitchen/dinning area...we love it ..we also have two window rattlers in the bedrooms...
The sun came out yesterday, Friday's rain was only 4mm
We have started loading the motorhome...we are looking forward to having a few days away from home... But...word from my brother may change things... things are rapidly going worse...
Today I have plans to mow the lawn again
Shirley only eggs for breakfast today... someone wasn't keeping MY eyes on how much was in the fridge so no bacon..
Carol is improving with every day...
Keep safe.
Bernie.

Re: Good morning daily
Good morning everyone, from the Bellinger River C/Pk, which is a bit north of Valla Beach and a bit south of Coffs Harbour. We are going to stay here for a few days and just chill. Or maybe go to the shops, or both.
We don't have any eggs Bernie, but I have plenty of bacon.
Not really sure what's on the agenda for today, but I'd love to find something that will make the dry, hacking cough that I have, go away. Maybe.
Safe travels everybody, enjoy your brekky, no matter what it is.
