Ford has lodged a patent for flat towing EV's and charge them at the same time and Rivian is working on the idea as well.

Thanks NP. That's a very interesting article.
Unfortunately if Ford has patented it, it will probably finish up buried somewhere.
But I hope that isn't the case.

Re: Charging House batteries from an EV charging station.
The date of that article is 2021, try a Google search and see if you can find a Ford EV that can be flat towed all 4 down ..... I think they may have patented an idea that they later discovered was not actually legal or feasible in the long term.
I've already posted the why nots, so no idea where they plan to put the excess battery charging once the battery is full ..... suddenly loosing that braking from the rear and the towed weight suddenly being added to the rear of the towing vehicle could be a tad unsettling if you weren't prepared for it .... like in the middle of preparing for a tight bend or actually in the bend when the weight shift occurred ......
I'm not saying it can't be done, but there are a lot more factors involved, including sensors between the two vehicles to determine load and negative load, a spring loaded in either direction weight cell would do it as a thought off the top of my head, the springs at the balanced load position would equal no drive and no regen or braking, the design would be to keep this load cell at neutral and a negative load setting adjustable by the driver much like a caravan brakes. I doubt you'd get away with launch and hill climb assist other than removing the weight of the EV on the hitch, the authorities take a dim view of a self driving vehicle pushing another vehicle ..... not an issue really unless there was an accident, then the faeces would hit the air movement device ......

Re: Charging House batteries from an EV charging station.
Agree with you and David Terry, was just pointing out what some are doing. Rivian is also investigating the ability to flat tow their EV's which sounds reasonable, but in my opinion regen charging whilst towing comes with loads of what ifs and would come with some pretty natty technology. As well as not being of much advantage as pointed out, the drag on the towing vehicle would come close to negating any advantage. Much cheaper to put a small wind gennie on the EV when towing and recharge it that way.
But of course the towing vehicle would reduce the wind pressure getting to the EV, so drop that idea, unless you put the wind gennie on a little trailer behind, with solar panels.
In some places in the USA you can legally tow a trailer with another trailer attached, like a mini road train. So solar cells, a couple of wind gennies and bingo, you've got a recharged EV. if only it was that simple.

It's only a matter of time. Things will change. They always do. We might not be around to see it though.

Free wheeling hubs for the drive wheels to basically flat tow, but the one pedal driving with a remote throttle pedal worm drive actuator would do the job to drive enough to overcome the vehicle drag, but back off completely to produce regen braking. Still doesn't fix the full battery problem, but some driving between the regen events would at least use some out of the battery. Maybe a remote dash display on the battery state of charge and load/regen, probably possible through the OBD2 connector to an app and sent to the phone ..... or a really long USB cable

The spring weighted load cell would remove the driver from having to keep tabs on how things were going, a feed into the throttle position and a brake pedal screw solenoid, if the battery stops accepting charge, the load cell increases the push on the brake pedal and engages the mechanical brakes ......

Re: Charging House batteries from an EV charging station.
Why not just replace the whole battery thing with 20,000 AAAs?

That's more or less a Telsa battery pack. Why not just replace the whole battery thing with 20,000 AAAs?
