Dottie,
Right now I’m doing exactly that… multiple times every day!!
ps. Updated the lock screen photo on my phone while doing my 4-hour stint in hospital…. Had a pic of my favourite (only) granddaughter as an 8yo.
Grabbed a great portrait of her at our delayed Christmas Lunch, so I now have a pic of her at 14!

I know I have 6 kids still alive, at least 3 grandkids and I'm led to believe at least one great grand kid, two of the kids still speak to me, so you aren't alone on that trip Brian ......

Son-&-Heir says I was lucky to get a smile from her.

Seems a common theme today, kids not having anything to do with parents, mine are the same. Their partners seem to think being a muso is not a real job, but it's a freedom you seldom get in other professions and in the past made really good money, as well as travel and some extraordinary times.

Fortunately we are in constant contact with our two boys & families, couldn’t imagine life without them, watching the 4 young g’sons growing up so close to us has been a real pleasure & our 27 year old grandson is always messaging me & available to help us, he just replaced the rollers on our glass sliding doors, we haven’t seen our 23 year old granddaughter so much this last year, she is going to uni & working two jobs, their Dad Brad just repaired the main toilet in our house, needed a new flange wouldn’t stop running when you flushed it, family is everything to us.
I love going kayaking with the young ones, too old to go bike riding with them
although I still do have my bike.
Bruce enjoys repairing & maintaining the young ones bikes & is always teaching them things, had the young bloke 10 drilling holes in a thick piece of wood, learning how to use a drill, safety glasses & supervised.

You're very lucky. My dad didn't have much to do with me. When ever the boys ask for assistance, I come running.Fortunately we are in constant contact with our two boys & families, couldn’t imagine life without them, watching the 4 young g’sons growing up so close to us has been a real pleasure & our 27 year old grandson is always messaging me & available to help us, he just replaced the rollers on our glass sliding doors, we haven’t seen our 23 year old granddaughter so much this last year, she is going to uni & working two jobs, their Dad Brad just repaired the main toilet in our house, needed a new flange wouldn’t stop running when you flushed it, family is everything to us.

I'm starting to love the interactions with their 'adult' friends and activities. Hopefully the ground work has been laid for a long future.

Sounds good Jon, believe we laid the groundwork their young friends where always welcome in our house when they were growing up, a couple of their mates are friends with me on FB, 40+ years later.
the boys sailed catamarans competitively at our local sailing club, school holidays I would take them down to the lake, I would then spend the day with them, the rule by Bruce “ not allowed to be there without you, “ guess I became one of the boys, I also use to take them up to the Watagan mountains with their friends in my 4x4 for a barbecue.
Bruce & I had close relationships with our parents & grandparents, Brads our youngest son has worked away for years, still rings us at least once a week wherever he is working around the world.
