If people do a lot of scaremongering that costs the general population millions .. billions of dollars and then in due course it's found out to be false, is there any ability for society to claim those $$$$ back?
hehehe.... I wish!!

I think the people of Tarawa would disagree with the 0 disaster record.

The sea level in places like Venice, where flooding was a freak event, maybe 4 time in a century, now has a new norm of streets under water and having to build elevated walkways to get from one side of a street that vehicles travelled on not too long back, says it isn't simply scaremongering, but very real ...... lucky you live in a floating house so you never see the water level rising around the edges of your water level house ......

A bit OT, but it's kinda like the Y2K bug. A few companies made truck loads out of that too. And, as usual the poor old Joe Public got shafted, again.

Not really. I was on the other side of that fence.
Computers that used 2 digit date codes were simply going to stop.

Just imagine your banking app stopping, but it would be everything.

HeHe I was involved on setting up my abattoirs for Y2k. Cost hundreds of thousands of dollars as we had to get all new software. Most of the programs except the Unix server and its operating system had to be researched installed tested on isolated systems. Before we cound think of going live. This included all the production, accounting maintenance and refrigeration software. We went live before end of year and all work and January we just kept working. Next board meeting manager was absolutely livid that we wasted all the money for nothing as everything kept working
After her finish the original IT manager, a bit snoid stood up and informed him that on the weekend we would install all the old system back in and we were both going on holidays. Was not game to take us on.

When we tried the one at the workshop back when I had ACEIS Automotive, it reverted back to 1900 and lost all the records, both customer and financial, that would have wiped us out, not a great way to start the new yr. Fortunately we backed up everything before we did the test, not even the programs ran, just the time a few seconds after midnight Jan 1 1900

I think the climate denialists are tarred with the same brush as the Y2K denialists, if it hasn't hurt them directly, it didn't exist and all a scam .......

A maybe not so funny one

seems that's why Trump wants Greenland, the receding ice is exposing rich rare earth mineral deposits, and he wants them ....... the new oil perhaps?
