Hi Bernie
I know you have crawled about your motorhome a fair bit
Following on from jon_d this is the style extension cable you use to go from the redarc brake controller (which could be mounted at the back) to the control knob which can be fitted into spare dash slot up front

Some of them need a resistor on the indicators to get them to flash properly. The little square ones on our Tilta don't though.
They shouldn't on a trailer because the vehicle lights are acting as the suitable load.

Bernie I'm sure you have some 12V house supplied items up the back of the MH?
eg. Water pump? Needs to be a decent supply tho.
You could even use the car's battery for a feed?
If so, tap into your brake lights 24v, thru a relay running 12v thru to your trailer brakes.
That makes it legal but I suggest you install a secret switch on the wire from your 24v brake light to turn it off.
You have no need for trailer brakes except down about 6 big downhill runs.
Being an ex trucky you know what I mean?

Yes I have 12 volt at the rear...
But I need everything to be working for a roadworthy on the trailer..
My ute doesn't have trailer brakes neither.
Bernie.

First things first.
I'm guessing you would take the trailer to be inspected with your ute?
So you need to supply 12v from your ute brakelights to your trailer brake feed wire.
Do you know which wire feeds the trailer brakes?
Is it inside the trailer wiring plug or is it a 'special' wire like an Anderson Plug or something?
Still probably will need a relay feed or it may blow your brakelight fuse if you direct feed it.
Some trailer/caravan plugs do have a heavy 12v wire in them. You may need to inspect/trace with multimeter?

What weight are you looking to get the trailer registered to carry Bernie? Up to 2,000kg total weight, trailer and all, you can use over-ride brakes only, up to 2400kg you also must have break away brakes fitted ...... this why so many car trailers are load limited to 1,990 kg, so the don't have to have a break-away brakes.

That brake controller near the driver's hand is great for when the trailer is sick of all the dust and wants to pull in front of the tow vehicle .... a quick jab on the trailer brake lever helps get the trailers attention and it decides to stay behind ;)
Dual axle trailers are shockers for this caper .... single axle trailers aren't quite as bad .... unless it's a muddy, slippery road ..... the blue "workshop" trailer we bought off Homeless (Brian) had two attempts at overtaking on one short piece of moving mud road ..... first to the right, then to the left ..... all at around 20km/h max.....the Mazda was heavy enough to stay semi straight (lock to lock rally style driving) and the trailer caved the bumper bar in both sides as it tried to jack knife each time ... If Brian hadn't had the trailer drawbar reinforce after a previous incident, it would have snapped it off for sure .....

I will probably have to change the mega $$ trailer to electric brakes so I can add a break away system, not sure if you can do that with hydraulic over-ride brakes more Google searching when I can see better

Have you lookes at these units ?
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/25653329905 ... R9bX_-KmZQ

Mounted on the trailer .
Also I used to make portable brake controllers for a while, either 12 or 24V . and some 24V power ssupply and 12 brakes with voltage reducer.
Also you can get an electric actuator for Hydraulic Brakes that can be wirelessly activated, although I'd be putting the sender as far back as possible
