I had thought that Chris Bowen would have made a better choice. Flock me, I'm glad that didn't happen. I am terribly disappointed in how things have transpired. I don't think I will ever understand why we need to sell all our gas to overseas markets and have a bit less than nothing when we have a decent storm somewhere. Its all good with solar renewables until it all turns to shite after a week of no sun. I believe that it is reasonable to have an alternative supply available.
Australia still has plenty of gas reserves available, so why don't we utilise them, instead of selling them of to overseas interests.⁰

Bruce,
Not exactly what I’d call “at the bottom of the sea”.
More like “sitting in the shallows, standing several metres above the water line”.
Still, it IS an eyesore where it is. Pity about the legal stoush.
Shoulda been a priority for removal.
Usual position for these things is much deeper water, which I assume is where it was headed.
The weight required to keep it in place is the very thing that makes refloating it for removal a serious problem.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Another quiet day inside with my aching legs reminding me about what old people should and should not be doing. Had a great 2 hr talk with our old c-c-a friend Steve Wilson aka Ozefueler, he and wife Lorraine are still living at Nelson, no more traveling for them.
Gman got a good report from my neck man today so happy with that. Have the shutter man coming tomorrow to sort out a couple of shutters that have started to make noises when being moved, looks like more $$$ will be heading out the door soon, never ending. Now I need a good painting mob, any referrals? too big a job for us old ones. Hope you are getting some more sleep Shirley, I don't have any idea how you must feel I have the opposite issue. The BOB's are on tonight or should I say 2am so I may just have a shower to see if that wakes me up a bit. The lawn man is also coming on Thursday for another weed / lawn treatment must admit it is looking better with him in charge of it. Will have to start the fruit trees pruning plus finding out what the white sticky fluffy stuff is that appeared on the apple tree, ? downy mildew maybe? Off for a shower now. Goodnight everyone x
Goodnight Chuck x

Yes, it looks like Little Johnny tried to get all the credit for that, before it all went downhill. But Aust has been exporting gas from Bass Strait for years before the NW Shelf debacle.
We even used to export LP Gas back in the day, when we actually had oil refineries that produced a product.

I remember the LPG exports screams about what they sold it for as an export product to what we were paying for it, but the LNG did start being exported until 1989 when Bob Hawke was prime minster. The scandalously cheap export contracts were all during little Jonny's time .supersparky wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 12:04 pm Yes, it looks like Little Johnny tried to get all the credit for that, before it all went downhill. You need the Liberal Govt in power to support the big multinationals while ignoring Aust needs ..... they just figured it would put pressure on drilling/fracking for more gas, but the signs regarding how much damage it was doing were clear by then and even the coalition voting farmers were against it .....so it didn't happen.
If the big mines hadn't gone to open cut, that gas could have been pumped out for yrs to come, it requires coal seems to produce methane (natural gas), a lot of the big ga basins are oil based, so that is LPG and there isn't a big enough market/$$ to be worth drilling and pumping that stuff .....

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
There are more than just a couple of sewerage treatment plants in Aust that run methane powered generators that are more than capable of producing electricity. The Stanwell Corporation have one near Beenleigh Qld. It generates sufficient power to run the sugar mill and half the surrounding district.
Not sure that Stanwell own it any longer, but it uses all the green waste that the Gold Coast can produce.
Like Ray pointed out earlier we do have plenty of ways of generating power, should we try.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
This is the map of gas sources in Aust that have been drilled and proven, probably a lot more, but if fracking is required, forget it ..... so a lot of the coal gas is trapped ..... the purple sections are coal seam natural gas, all the rest of the methane requires processing to extract it.
All the rubbish tips produce plenty of methane as well, but it must be either cleaned, or used there in combustion engines to generate electricity. There was a big one in he Illawarra tat was producing plenty of gas and generating plenty of power ..... but they shut it down, the big multination's don't want power generation from free fuel competing against them .....

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
I've tried to stay out of this as much as I can.
If someone offered to buy many thousands of Lithium batteries would they pay the same price if they only bought one?
The owners of the coal, gas, iron ore etc are privately owned..... not owned by the Gov.
I wonder what would happen if they banded together & decided to 'shutdown' for twelve months?

They are owned by shareholders, the board of directors would be back on the dole que if they shut down and started costing shareholders money.BruceS wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 1:02 pm I've tried to stay out of this as much as I can.

As far as the price for buying batteries, I tried to buy a 40ft container of Winston LYP cells, the on benefit it would give me was to be put ahead in the que to have my order filled, price was the same.
CATL, the makers of world recognised best leading edge battery manufacturer, will only sell to automotive manufacturers at the moment, any you see being sold and claimed to be CATL, are rejects that have been redirected from the recycling centre .... or not CATL at all.
A123 had the same policy, only sell to major manufacturers, proved to be a bad policy because A123 went belly up.
You would have to have a Chinese buyer who was corruption proof (good like finding one of those) watching the quality and quantity being packed, before authorising payment, to buy from one of the other mobs, otherwise, a cheaper price will generally result in a cheaper quality produce.... China will build to a price, not discount the price of an A grade fully tested product ..... only Western buyers think they can dictate a price to a Chinese manufacturer and think they can get more than they paid for ..... never going to happen
