Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

"tanks" here---
I did the shopping bit yesterday, and so I have nothing much to do today except read a book.

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

The temp is 11c at 07:15 am and expecting to climb to 24c later today. Only a few weeks before winter gets here.

Not much to report...I had the day off 😂.
I did clean the stove in the motorhome... before I was in trouble 😁😁.
I'm guessing you're home by now Dave...
How's the project coming along Jon ?
Nothing planned for today yet...
I gave my neighbour over the back my front number plate from the motorhome...to get it straight again...it took the brunt of the impact with the road when the bracket broke.. plus to take his mind off his little dog who hasn't much time left 🥲🥲.
He done a great job... almost like new...
Keep safe.
Bernie.
But, are the numbers the same  Worked at a Ford dealership where the job of fitting the numberplates went to the apprentices ..... had one event where an Escort returned, 18 mths after purchase, with 2 different number plates ...... tracking it down, turned out the other plate was on a Landau ..... that had been sold and gone instate ..... the fix was to pay for new plates and claim one was lost ..... technically true I guess ..... the other plate went up on the workshop wall in the memorable trophies area ...... the apprentice was a tradesman by this stage and every error an apprentice made, the number plate was pointed to and the statement, "you could still make it to tradesman, as long as no one finds out for 18 mths" he never lived that down for as long as I was still in the trade in Wollongong

Just throwing this out...the bracket that broke is a mirror image of the one I'm putting a picture of...it tore off at the bend...this one also shows signs of cracking at the same spot....now...this is 5 mm plate... I'm thinking of having two new ones made from 10 mm plate...

Boys 19th yesterday. Echoing someone famous 'unbelievable'.

Bernie, slowly. Thinking about the bores and pistons. There is about 0.4 total gap between the piston and wall. Waiting on an inside mircometer to measure things up accurately.

Air compressor rings are shot, Isuzu gave me the wrong ones. Going back today. Isuzu parts are quite cheap. AC rings, gaskets are $108. OEM steel head gasket cheaper than after market.
Wow, Happy late Birthday boys .... well, young men now really. Helps explain why getting up from a seat results in a non voluntary groan as the knees remind me of every bit of abuse they have suffered over the yrs .....

Is there a lip in the bore? Use an old top ring and measure the gap at the top and a number of places down the bore to determine the taper, if the bore is oval, you will see it with a torch under the ring in various parts around the bore ........ no fix for that, new sleeves pistons etc .... a rebuild kit is around $1,000 for one of those engines, so not too bad.
How are the ring gaps between ring and piston land? are the rings worn with a taper towards the inner edges with definable lips on the outer ring edge.

Check the crank pins to make sure they aren't oval, that is the more common problem, hammering from to top of the stroke resulting in bearing slap at the bottom of the stroke .... the crank grows side to side as the metal shifts, till it grabs a bearing and spins it because the crank either hammers one shell resulting in a lip forming on the next shell in rotation, or the crank finally won't spin inside the shells at the joints and wipes the oil film off, then it welds metal to metal ..... Perkins cranks were bad for it, but many of the Jap cranks are similar .....

Make sure you put the thrust bearing in facing the correct way, had two back to back come in on the hook after an engine rebuild at local dealership .... in frustration, the owners were trading them on a new Volvo and I was working at the Volvo dealership at the time. Both suffered the identical problem, sitting at the lights with the foot on the clutch and the engine seized, both had welded the thrust washers to the crank, steel back brg against steel crankshaft, that progressively chewed away the brg cap and block, both scrap bin engines as a result

Too much localised stress is causing the cracks. You need to radius that "L" shaped bend so the stress spreads over a bigger area. A smooth curve as big as you have room for will solve the problem

Bernie, just gusset the corner an make the corner round. It's tearing under the weight. 5mm is a bit light. Maybe 8mm.

Good morning everyone.
Off to the big smoke today.... it's shopping day 😁😁 that time of the month...
Thanks Terry and Jon...I will check if I can fit a radius at the "L" bend... probably tomorrow... finding someone who can make these brackets will be the challenge . and I was thinking of 10 mm Jon...to heavy??... that's twice as thick...as apposed to 8 mm ?...
Keep safe.

Good morning everyone. We are home again now.
It drizzled rain for most of the trip home, only stopped near the border.
We finally figured out what the funny noise was as we went over the bridge at Taree was. Our awning will never be the same.
It hasn't been much fun, the past few days.
I took 90kg of collected treasure out of the Jimny yesty arvo. I think it was close to the load limit of the little trailer. I'll do some tests today.
Bernie, what does that bracket attach to? Bumper or bodywork?
Safe travels all those out and about.
Cheers
David
