Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Now I'm here, may as well say hello, hello :D  . My days start at 0500, when the world is quiet and peaceful just love walking the dogs in the dark and listening to all the animals scurrying away, the dogs just watch them never chase them. But running in the dark which we do when the moons out is a bit hairy, I carry a torch so can keep an eye on the black dogs in case they ever workout I can't see them in the dark if they stand still.

Yesterday we had sleet rain and 6deg outside, today sunny and 17deg. Our rain fall is down around 50% this year and last year was the same, even though it rained a lot it was mostly misty rain.

Today started to weld the new axle on the sidecar, but had to stop as my welding helmet failed and couldn't see the job, just the glow of the weld spark. Have taken the 18 inch wheel and cut 3/4 inch axle off, got a 250mm long square stub axle, 13x5 inch alloy ford wheel and lazy hub to lower the sidecar and welding the axle on top of the axle support instead of on the side. That will drop the sidecar 75mm and a further 28mm by moving the axle to the top of the 10mm wide support arm. To make it stronger cut 2 pieces of 25mm wide steel and was welding those together when the helmet died, which sent my welding all over the place because couldn't see the job. But the helmet is over 25 years old and a cheap ebay one, will get a Michigan pro helmet which just happens to be on special at total tools in Hobart on Thursday when go shopping.

During the rain yesterday, stripped the sidecar of all the aluminium strips, bogged up the holes and sanded it down. Got 2 samples of candy red paint for the body, sparkling purple for the flames and some gold for flame tips. Going to experiment with those in a couple of days to choose which red to use, as the reds are different, may ghost one red on the other or airbrush it on to form deeper red stripes. It'll end up with about 8 coats of clear coat to get that glass look hopefully,

But that won't happen for a short time as we are off to Aus for a short 2 weeks next week to do a couple of gigs and one for a muso friend celebrating his divorce, should be a wild time as his parties are always wonderful events, considering the majority who turn up are musos and there's heaps of jamming, which includes kids as well. We put stacks of instruments into one lounge room and the kids go for it, this time it will be grandkids as the kids have all grown up and in my case, it'll be great grand kids bashing away. The adults jamm in the studio, or if there's a lot, in the other lounge room.

For any interested, the new Tas ferries when they are put into service, will have cabins where you can have your dogs with you. They gave me a flyer with an application form because of the amount of times I catch the ferry with my dogs, which includes priority booking for the dog cabins. Not that it means much, as whoever books first will get those cabins, but it may help. However they are yet to say how much it will cost, which may put many off including me if it's expensive, now dogs cost $25, but I only pay for one and they stay in the car, as they hate the kennels.

Enjoy your ramblings on the road and here, certainly enjoy mine :)

NP, use all those colours, and post some pics. It should look pretty cool. Can't beat a good flame job, IMHO.
Enjoy your travels.
Cheers

I bought a Michigan welder package for stick and gasless/gas mig welding and it came with a welding helmet, gloves, mig pliers and a roll of gasless mig wire. I didn't expect a whole lot of the welding helmet, but I'm impressed with how quick it switches and I can sort of see where I'm welding.

I've never used gasless mig wire before, but remembered the rhyme, "If it's got slag, ya gotta drag" so that helped. I've taken to welding hot (higher than normal volts) and stitch welding .... mostly so I can see I'm still welding in the right place  Then turning the voltage back to normal and filling in the holes  The penetration is good with the higher voltage but keeping the wire speed at the normal position stops the weld from becoming too wide or undercutting the edges.

A welding flash hurts a lot more and for a longer time with these replacement lenses in the eyes, particularly the one for reading .... the bright spot was there for a few days and it felt like I'd been poked in the eye with stick .... you know the one, a snapped of branch with all the pointy jagged bits, trying to get the hang of wearing the safety glasses under the helmet now, so I don't forget to switch from one to the other ....

NP I love your way of living and to have the space for the dogs to go belting around free but I would be putting a "glow in the dark" collar on them esp the black one, I get panicky if I can't see them BUT I am never up when it is dark  Have fun at the divorce party but behave with those kids are around   Remember the pics of the painting job.
Last night I had a nap and woke up to watch my fav boy (Woult Van Aert )win the stage of the Italian Race, he was nearly back to his old self but not quite there yet. Rest day today for them. Having an old forum coming to stay a few days, they are also race people so will be good.

Good morning everyone.
Yesterday I took the wheel carrier and supporting brackets to Biggenden engineering, he is going to make the brackets out of 10 mm steel... but first he has to give me a quote for the job... they were busy yesterday so maybe today I will get a phone call re the quote...
Not much else went on just some fiddling in the shed 😁
Carol had a win and got all the gossip 😁😁
Nothing planned for today...
Keep safe.

Good morning everyone. It looks like we'll have another fine day here. No rain in the forecast.
It looks like the weather is a bit more than ordinary from Sydney up to Pt Macquarie. Buladelah and Dungog are evacuating low lying areas, according to the ABC this morning.
We took the Winny to get measured up for a new awning yesty. Apart from some walking and a bit of yardwork, that was our day.
More yardwork today.
Safe travels all those out and about.
Cheers

Dot, both my kelpies are black, pushy and sneaky, spend most of their time cruising not far from me around the farm. If I'm in the workshop they stay at the house because it's normally noisy, but I like to work outside on nice days so they hang around then but away from where I'm working. A big part of their day is when we go for a walk/run round the property and throw Bindi's stick for her, whilst Dax sniffs out the world. We run down the track as it's easier running down hill for me and can do about 600m before getting to the bottom and puffed, that's when the stick throwing takes over across the flat paddocks and then up the hill which is pretty steep and good exercise. Take them to the beach every couple of days and now the touro season is over, the beaches are empty except for locals, even the surf beaches are empty whereas over the touro season, there were lots of surfers, no matter the waves they surfed. Now we have it to ourselves and the water is still nice and warm at 16deg.

Bought a "water rower" recently, they are a rowing machine which uses water for resistance so you think you're rowing in water and it's a very good all over work out and helping me get surfing fit.

Terry, gave up on gas welding a couple of decades ago, gas was too expensive with the bottle rental cost. Now I'm used to gasless wire and do use a higher heat for a cleaner job than with gas, gasless is good for spot welding too. I use a brazing technique for aluminium welding, after trying out some ebay aluminium welding rods and they do a pretty good job. Now you can buy your gas bottle and never have to pay rent, just get it filled or swapped for a full one, never got round to it and don't do much aluminium or S/S welding, but would like to.

Off to maniac land Monday, much better getting off the ferry in Geelong, then catching the Queenscliff ferry avoiding Melbourne. It's a lovely drive through the back roads and some quant little towns until hitting the Princes highway, but once past Lakes entrance, no traffic until Eden. I normally stay a few days near Mallacoota with some friends before hitting the polluted rat race of the NSW sth coast. Now the cruiser carries 320lt of fuel am able to do the round trip without refuelling anywhere, except for topping up the 10l shut down diesel tank a couple of times. Enjoy your day.
