Every browser, whether Windoze or Mac or Linux of all varieties can & do store your passwords. If an old password is stored, it can & will pop up & cause kaos. (No 96?)
On Firefox or Chrome it's pretty easy to go thru the list & delete any you don't want.
A quick search of "where does Mac store passwords" came up with info but as I have no idea what Ray is using (flovour of Mac) I can't help much.
If people use the most savage of security then usually when they leave a website, all passwords & evidence of the visit is deleted.
Norton security is very famous for this.

I use Firefox on both my laptop and phone.
I never logout, just shut down the app.
I tick the “Remember Me” box every time I have to login after system or app updates.
Regards & God bless,
Ray
