Ah yes, the Julian and Brown team. Drawn up plans at a Maleny Rally for fold out steps for the Big Bus Project, only to find the torque needed to fold up all the steps required was beyond a simple 12v DC motor, even with the windscreen motor type drive reduction ..... and by the time it was deployed, it felt as risky as a rope bridge

Ah, yes, the tanks come out tomorrow so we can take them into Adelaide to get them tested and restamped ..... I'll take the 250ltr tank in at the same time and get it tested and stamped, even though it has never been used .... I won it on an E Bay auction for less than half the price, even though it was brand new, sold it to a friend for his Bus Conversion and he never actually registered, so I bought it back from him .... and never used it myself It is now 12 yrs old and never been used .......

I'll buy more LPG hose while I'm in there and replace any hoses that weren't remade from new hose ..... Then it should be ready for the trip in Nov, back to Balranald, to get it's pink slip for rego ..... Finding some one reasonably close in NSW that does LPG rego inspections for heavy vehicles is getting a tad tricky, so I'll ring Monday morning and make sure he is still doing rego inspections .... I think he's older than me and was still running a serious mechanical workshop and roadside assistance, so I hope he's still doing it .....

Terry are you saying you have 1mtr from your bottom step? We put the little step out if we stop for a little while because the air bags are still up a bit.(They are not up in this pic)

Anywhere from 600mm to 1 mtr when levelled, there is plenty of clearance under the Winnie when it's up on the legs No idea what it is sitting flat on the springs, rocks around too much so the levelling legs always go down when we park up.
With min legs down to keep the Winnie steady, the bottom of the door is 800mm off the ground, the inside floor is 1.2 mtrs off the ground, so we are fairly safe inside if the water level ever rises

The bus floor is 950mm high. It has 2 internal steps and a little portable set.

Even then, going in and out often works the knees. A grab handle is essential.

Jd we also have a grab handle and it is very useful indeed but I think I agree with Dave, bite the bullet and get a new one, bugger the cost safety is the #1 issue here, think how happy and appreciative Margaret shall be, just think about that....

I have found that getting out/down is the big issue. I have fallen up the steps a few times when Bandit wanted in at the same time as me. But I'm yet to fall down the steps. I hope I don't cos I reckon it will hurt, more than just a little bit.
Whatever you decide to do just make sure that the depth between risers is the same for every step. Otherwise, someone will misjudge a step and fall. I seriously hope that doesn't happen though.

Each step is between 200mm and 180mm, the two inside the Winnie aren't the same, nor if the first step out of the Winnie onto the retractable steps.
