Nightly Goodnight Everyone

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

We water-skied behind a tinnie before I bought the mini hydroplane .... that was still illegal to ski behind because there was no room for an observer, but that never stopped us ..... we weren't rich and certainly not kids, I think I was in my early 20's  Learned to single ski behind that, fitted on the roof racks on a VW square back and powered by a very stripped down (to remove weight) 20 hp Mercury outboard ..... great fun for very few $$

Noggins wrote: Mon Sep 29, 2025 10:07 am We live in a village, brick and tile buildings, and the rules here are very similar to living outside, with just a few exceptions.
No speeding is a prime one, then there's Dog walking, a short lead to stop them wandering etc in the gardens, pick up all their bogs, and if your dog has social problems, keep it on a short lead and control it!
No free-range animals at any time.
We do our own frontage gardens, and the Village does all the Common areas
Then there's the Old Person syndrome, don't tell me what to do, I know everything, and I'll tell you about it all the time, the best way to be a loner, from what I see here.
Apart from that, I don't see living in this village any different to living outside.
Some people you see a lot of, and some you never see.
Mt next door I saw 3 weeks ago, blinds are up so I know she's alive
One couple I met recently have been here 15 years, but they don't socialise a lot and are quite happy with the village.
But the Village next door ????? !!
Security cameras everywhere, reviewed every Monday to check up on those disobedient Villagers,( Think Gestapo and all the rules to keep them all in line with her decisions and overview )
Friends liked the layout of that Village, now they regret it.
So if you're thinking of Village Lifestyle, do a LOT of research

Rom, so pleased that you have addressed some of the issues of living in a gated community. I’ve been reluctant as so many here are so anti the idea. There are retirement villages and there are lifestyle villages. We live in the latter and have done so for more than 11 years. Our lifestyle village is specifically designed for those who own RVs, Caravans etc and want to travel for a large portion of each year. Yes, there are rules but not onerous and not much different if one lives in suburbia. The most important thing is to know what your village situation is. In Qld, (I can’t speak for other states) retirement villages have deferred management payments, meaning you don’t retain the full sale value, I.e. an exit fee. Lifestyle villages allow you to retain the full sale value (less commission if you sell through the village). We have a 16x6m garage attached to our house which acts as storage, man cave and junk storage as required.

Village life is not for all but it has served us well and we expect it to continue until we are carted out in a box. We join in what social activities we choose, nothing is forced on us. This year we had a 6 week trip to Victoria, a 5 week Mediterranean cruise and currently 3 weeks into a 6 week Motorhome trip to north Qld. Our home is under supervision whilst we are away.

I acknowledge this is not for everyone but to dismiss the lifestyle out of hand is shortsighted.
Cheers

Great explanation Lesley, I believe over 50 lifestyle resort living is very different to retirement villages, especially in layout, construction material & size.

I think the person has to suit living in which ever type of retirement setting suits them .... one size definitely doesn't fit all .... I could never live in suburbia again after the freedom the Mannum house gave us, but some people really enjoy the whole living side by side thing ... each to their own, and as we get older, our needs change a lot as well .... I need to avoid breaking any more mirrors for my remaining time above ground, the powers that be are really taking this mirror breaking thing serious this time

Wow Dot, you have opened up a can of assorted worms here mate. Leslie, Noggins, Shirley and Terry have all given different thoughts that are very valuable. Just know that you are getting exactly what suits you and not worry about pleasing anyone except you and George. Take your time to get that just right, for you both. xxxx

Robert, you are so lucky to be alive now, it's not that long ago that my Dad had heart issues. Quadruple by-pass at 50 and by 65 he was told that any more surgery would not happen as he was too old to survive. He died at 70, from a massive heart attack. Twenty years later and we are seeing so many people having such amazing surgeries with positive results and many of those patients are well into their 70's. Hope all is well with you mate...I replied to your message before seeing your health post. Stay well my friend.

I went down to my shed today in brilliant sunshine and the bottles look great. I put the last pair in for a firing tonight and then I will concentrate on more interesting things. The earrings have now helped to bring back my creative vibes. I ended up with 25 pairs on the bench, all ready for firing. I had to force myself to stop making them. I will make more if and when this lot get purchased. . The rest of the day was pretty mundane.'

night all xxx

That’s correct Shirley. Here is a link to homes for sale in our village just to give an idea of the variety. https://rv-homebase.com.au/for-sale/

Dottie,
As you know, we’re on 1.5acres.
When we moved in (12 YEARS ago!😳) we were both reasonably fit, and did most of the garden digging and borders ourselves. There were only two things we paid professional people for: one tricky-shaped garden bed and a brick path.
Over the years both of us have deteriorated, and while Joy still has fun driving the ride-on mower, I can no longer contribute to the heavy work. (However, I’m a demon with the leaf-blower!😁)
We now pay a young man (mid-30s) to help for a couple of hours every fortnight. He has horticulture qualifications and is willing to do extra hours when needed, eg. Rose pruning season.
If you can find someone similar in your area, I reckon you’ll be happier and financially better off than moving to a concentration retirement village. 👍
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Not at all interested in the Retirement way, the over 50's set ups are much more liberal and no where as many silly rules and regs as the retirement places, plus you don't have to sell your house to get in. Lesley hit the nail on the head with her description. The whole idea for me is not to have to sell everything up like our
friend did. Robert n Bob you have a good family to sort stuff when you have gone we have nothing like that. Ray we are waiting for the help from NDIS thing but they are slack in doing anything, I am now a grade 5 and G is unable to do much these days at all until we find out his op improves things or not.
Have left messages for 2 "handymen" to ring us back but as usual 0. No wonder the "white Pussy" pops in every now and again. Just keep asking Q's things will sort out when ready. Q/ What is this Blue additive stuff you see at the petrol stations ? N.C. George you are a naughty boy getting up on any roof didn't you learn after your last fall? naughty naughty! How's your little runner bird doing? Robert n Bob keep smiling and take things slowly with your van work, all will be ok. Pictures when you have time Deborah please. Stephen Colbert is on soon so Goodnight everyone x :D Goodnight N.C. George.x :D

Dot, good approach to the research mate. As for pics, well they will happen once the bits of glass miraculously turn into earrings. They are like nothing else that I have done for earrings and are getting their fry up tonight. xxxx

It feels so good to back in my shed, but not for long. Need to have space on the stall for anything else. So until the sales start to happen, not too much will be getting made.

We spent half an hour chasing around a bloody hyperactive huntsman spider tonight. I knew I wouldn't sleep until it was dead, so got out the heavy duty long lasting surface spray as well as the crawling one. Nothing knocks these mongrels out. It kept ducking under cupboards and eventually a good long blast brought it out to the open, where it met it's match...his size 9. Anyone recommend a spray that actually does kill spiders? And the other spray I desperately need is for stink bugs. They decimated out lemon tree last year and are already back. I tried the super strong spray on them today and one just looked up at me as if to say "thanks for the bath" . It had no effect n them at all...I don't want to give in to them but they are annoying me.

Tomorrow is get the will sorted out day, so I guess that will be enough for one day.

night all xxx
Deborah
