Re: Trump (again!)
I think the Republican party are starting to realise Trump is in it for Trump, he doesn't care about the damage it may do to the party, they were just used to get him where the Heritage Foundation could use him to apply the latest Think Tank ideas.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Heritage_Foundation
It is obvious he isn't the one coming up with the policies, his social media ramblings show just how much thinking he is capable of .... It's all just an extension of his bid for fame in the TV show The Apprentice, but that one was produced by people who knew how to manipulate an image .... for some reason, Trump still thinks he is the TV star and everyone hangs of every word he says ....
This govt shutdown is designed to blind the real reason he doesn't want any govt agencies actually doing what they do well, crunching numbers and publishing facts .... the real ones, not the Donald Trump Fake News/Facts that he wants everyone to believe .....
Add to that, he is hoping it will give the sanitisers time to remove and harmful connection between the Trump family and Epstein .... the bits coming out regarding Malania, the trophy wife, would shatter the illusion even further ..... he is the hero in his head, those that followed him like a god are starting to see just how mistaken they were to even listen to anything he says ......
The only good things to come out of it, the USA has lost its world dominance in the eyes of every other country by Trump ending all the Good Buddy relationships the previous govts had established and nurtured ...... The US has been broke both financially and industrially for a long while, Trump was still of the illusion the US had power over other countries ..... they are now discovering the world does not rotate around the USA or that they rely on it to be the USA to stabilise the world monetary system .....

............ until WW111?
Almost every country in this whole world has depended on the good ol's USA to stand behind them in case of need. Australia is the exception because Wrong Woong & her excuse for a leader know China has their back.

Re: Trump (again!)
I think WW3 is being fort on the AI and hacker level. Everyone is broke, they have all borrowed deeply, the US has just borrowed more, but no one is willing to fund them with Trump at the controls.
Who would start WW3:
Russia? After their great success with the current war, against a TV personality that turned out to be far better connected than Putin had assumed ..... they are relying on Chinese backing at the moment, but China now has its own problems ....
China? They have amazing technical skills, stolen from others, the same way the US got ahead and the UK, but the Chinese and Taiwanese and a few others, have developed the electronics age to a degree that copying is no longer possible ..... but will they risk a war? They have a diminishing number of young people and a growing problem with older people who are no longer productive. They also have a serious problem with some of those young people not wanting to toe the party line, give them a gun and they'd be a worry about which way they would point the nasty end.
That leaves them with staging a remote control war, they have the better skill level for that sort of fighting, but they also rely on the rest of the world to buy their products .... Trump has already made it clear what happens to export trade when you turn nasty ....
Who else has the power .... besides the US itself?

Re: Trump (again!)
Maybe it will be the Donald, or one of his cronies if he falls off the perch, or maybe it will be the the guy with the crazy haircut from Nth Korea. Or maybe it will be some loopy bunch of terroists that manage to get control of some bunkered or siloed ballistics.
Some people choose to think that Putin is only being tolerated because the next couple of options behind him are just a tad more 'loose cannon' than he is.
Hopefully, we'll never need to find out.

Re: Trump (again!)
Dave (& T1),
At least in WAR GAMES the computer came to the conclusion that the only way to win was not to start the war in the first place!
Let’s hope that the current crop of looney tunes leaders has as much brain power as that 1970s (?) computer …
However, there’s a wee voice in the back of my brain that says, “Yeah, Nah.”
Therefore I guess we’ll have to rely on the provision in the Yank Constitution which allows generals & other ranks to disobey any order they consider unconstitutional.
