We have a Kogan 240v/12v LCD, sometimes we have to tune in more than once to find all the available stations. The screen isn't much bigger than a laptop and is a bit difficult to see when viewed from any position other than straight ahead. No DVD but has USB and inbuilt PVR which I haven't figured out how to use yet.

You won't get good sound from any of these days, Dot. Buy a 2.1 sound system . 200 to 300 dollars will do. So when you look for the TV foget about sound.

Thanks David, we had a tv in the winnie that you could only see properly if you were right in front of it so don't want to go there again. What is the PVR bit??.. We just need a 51cm screen and the normal 240v.

Steve what is that 2.1 you speak of??

Dot I've got a 15" & a 17" LCD TV and I'd like to suggest before you buy one that you go to either Hardley Normal or any other of those big electrical stores & spend some time testing the viewing angles.
My 17" one is by far a better angle one, but only from the left or right. It is very bad from up or down angles!!!!
For instance if I'm sitting up in bed it's OK but if I lay down I can just see the picture but the colours are all 'borked'.
I'm pretty sure all LCD or LED ones do NOT have the viewing angles that the old CRT ones had. Comments everyone?

I also have found they do not have the same quality sound. Smaller speakers in plastic?
Chat to Chuck about using your radio/stereo as an amplifier. (or those cheap amps from China?)

I'm not sure I'd get a DVD in it......... You have your laptop & you can connect that to your 'new' TV if you wish...

PS. PVR is "personal Vieo Recorder" (record TV shows on a USB stick or an externally powered Hard Drive to play back later.)

Dot, 2.1 (loosely speaking) will be two speakers - stereo, with a sub woofer - giving the fullness of sound that you probably seek.

An example of what I use: http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/acce ... sku-66521/
There are many brands and many prices. Check some out in your TV/Audio store. You can get 12v but 240 and an inverter might be necessary.

Another way around it is to buy a good quality radio - DAB, WiFi, such as the one Kogan sell. Your will get reasonably good sound by connecting your TV via the 'aux' input. You will also be able to get all of the digital radio stations and all your home town favourite stations via your wifi.
