Did I say USB-C?

Be warned that almost every device is heading over to the 'new' USB-c connection for data & charging.
Those that simply use a USB cable for charging your phone in the car ..... be warned!
Recently bought a new Acer Aspire 14 Aspire Ai computer only to find it came with no network port.
It did come with 2 ordinary USB ports and 2 (two) USB-c ports.
The charger came with the plug to go into the laptop that was USB-c.
The beauty of these USB-c plug/sockets is that there is no upside down of them! No more trying one way & having to turn it over!

OK, next was the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G phone. ($345.00)
It came with no 230V charger but came with a cable that was USB-c BOTH ends!
Went to charge it & have nothing that is USB-c ......

Turn on the laptop, plug in the 230v charger (USB-c) & then use the USB-c cable to plug into the laptop & the phone.
My car has a couple of 'ordinary' USB sockets but no USB-c. So I need a device to plug into the usb socket that gives me a USB-c output.

In the meantime I did buy a USB-c to USB cable.

So Folks ...... be warned! USB-c is coming to bite YOU!!
Next will be printers, hubs & all those other devices I guess?

Becoming the world standard Bruce and makes sense. I have 3 shopping bags of out dated cables, chargers and different attachments.

I would forget buying from Temu and look for a quick charge on Amazon to suit the latest laptop and phones.

You can get adapters that fit USB-C to all previous ports:- A to C, C to A, etc
From Ali Express for about $5 for the lot.
Or even Temu
My fav is the adapter that fits USB-C and has a mixture of ports for my Surface Pro computer
Cost me all of $4.50

Bruce, if you have a Samsung phone or tablet, and you use one of those non genuine USB C leads, you will get a slow charging message on that device. The genuine one must have a chip in it that allows a faster charge rate.
You can get 240v - USB/ USB-C power supplies as well.
It's a bit of a PIA if you have a device that has a USB B plug on the end, like my little borescope thingo.

I found it depended not only on the device offering the charge as to whether it was slow or fast, but the size of the cable, fast USB-c to USB-c is a reasonably solid cable, the USB to USB-c is a much smaller cable and not a very fast charge rate, the phone often asked if you actually plugged a cable into it all

That strange shaped wider at the bottom and narrower on the top USB plug, seems to be more common in torches .... from Aldi

My ASUS VivoBook has 2 x standard USB ports and one that says Lock on one side, on the other side, a headphone port, USB-c port, HDMI port, a standard USB port, a mini card reader and it'd mini power jack port.

Some USB -C cables come with a double adapter on one end ( Unplug the "A" end adapter) so it can be used either way.
But the trap is that some are just Power cables, and some are Data cables.
Where I volunteer, we get all the variations of cables and the power-only cables we get rid of.
One advantage is that Apple had to join the rest of the world and now uses USB-C , so there is no searching around for an Apple cable when we're asked to clean/clear an Apple iPad or Phone

If you aren't aware USB -C can carry a far higher current than USB - A too if the appliancce supplying the current can do so.
USB - C can carry up to 240w with power delivery and has 12 contact points in it where USB -A is typically has 4 contacts with a maximum current of 12w. Data speeds are also much quicker.

When I bought my new iPad Air I knew it had only one port: a USB-C. It did come with a charge cable with USB-A to USB-C plugs. At our local Jaycar I also found an adapter with two USB-A (female) ends.
After a phone call to Mr Jaycar I now need to buy a USB-A to C DATA cable to transfer my MacBook stuff across.
