Bernie, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that section across the back is metal, not fibreglass, so someone has attempted to patch it before.
Do you think the air conditioner housing was ordinally at the rear, or was it either moved from the front and added from another Hino?
If you sand all the way around the edges, you will discover how it was attached .... it might be possible to removing it, replate the rusted roof, repair the rusted air conditioner housing, then properly attach it to the roof using the adhesive they put car roof domes onto the frame with ......
These are the things seen on the body repair shows to hold the panel in place while attaching it https://pilotgear.com.au/products/10-pa ... EiEALw_wcB
the 1/8" hole is simply filled in with the same panel joining glue, then a bead of panel sealer around the outside edge and the inside edge so water can't get under the join and cause the problem to happen again.
There is a possibility the who ever fitted it, used acidic cure Silastic, that attacks the bare metal surfaces and starts the rust ..... a lot of panel beaters were caught out with that stuff when it first came out.

Think I mentioned that a long time back George, had a friend who suffered from those symptoms in my early teens .....Newcastle George wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 10:16 am Good morning All. 22* with max 26* forecast.
I have just returned from Dr's appointment regarding results of EEG test which was performed on 19th September. All is fine, just need medication to stop the amnesia/mild epilepsy events.![]()
It has only taken some 4 months to reach this conclusion.![]()

Thanks Terry.. it's only surface rust on the actual roof.
It was/is only held down with pop riverts . and I'm familiar with Cleco..I gave a lot away after I sold my last aircraft... it's not as bad as the picture suggests I've lifted it to gain access... and yes not fibre glass as I first thought... just heavy brush marks...
That hairy stuff is a bit exxie Jon..I will be in Maryborough Friday for another event...I will go to Bunnings then.

Re: Good morning daily
Can you see if they removed it from the front, or if your Hino didn't have one originally ..... I've seen a number of Hinos all looking flash without the front hump and they all said the panel beater removed it when replacing the roof skin. They were shockers for water condensing in the air conditioning tunnels along each side of the roof, soaking into the insulation and eating the panels above the gutters away ......BernieQ2 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 12:27 pm Thanks Terry.. it's only surface rust on the actual roof.

Morning everyone..
Terry if it was ever at the front it's impossible to say.. the front just looks like it's always been there...
I've also taken off the plastic piece that does nothing.. just look's good... plus it was also a place where water gathered... I'll just clean up more around the roof today..
The lawn is in need of a mow...it's a bugga I can't mow early...to much dew ... maybe gone by 10 am...
I don't think I have anything else to do today... maybe..
How's the insurance going Dave??
Keep safe.
Bernie
Addition...my new awning is still sitting in Bundaberg...

These came from the UK. Others will come from Langwarrin.
The plan is to overhaul it after the New Year.

It will be interesting to see what you find when you pull it to bits. The diff in Big Bus was simply worn out, the thrust washers on the planetary gears had been doubled to fill in the amount of metal that had been chewed out of the hemisphere, the crown wheel and pinion were worn to a knife edge .... about the only reuseable parts were the bolts and the diff housing itself, everything else was new and bought from Don Kyatt.

Re: Good morning daily
Spent the last 2 days getting the orange Prius and the Lexus GS 450h nose to tail across the edge of the cement slab, ready for the containers to arrive in the late afternoon ..... Neither of them are driveable and the Prius has no front wheels at the moment, so every positioning move involved the Prius front on the gypsy trailer and winch it into place using block pulleys attached to the fence poles and the rear of the Prius to drag it in different directions with the rear wheels on the positioning wheel trolleys .... then the repeat to get the Lexus in place
Rang Males Transport, only to find the side loader trailer that is used to move the containers is in WA and won't be back until the end of the week
So, I spent the last two days in the heat and burning sun, only for it to be a mild temp overcast day today ....... maybe back to my artistic work on painting the gas tanks ready for refitting .....
