I have the front garden full of them and since the potash, they are blooming beautifully and their colour is just like your pic. Amazing what can happen when you use the right foods. Hope Brian gets over the worst soon. xxxx
Hope you all have electricity for those much needed air conditioners
We're in WA , so an air conditioner is a standard piece of household equipment here .
Back in the Good-Ol -Daze when I had a cafe in Vic, I used to put the used coffee grounds around the struggling roses that came with the place, they changed from nearly dying to lets go !
Here in the village, I have advised a couple, who have roses that were struggling, to use coffee grounds, so after a trip to Bunnings to collect coffee grounds from their cafe, their roses are really blooming ( and that's in the 35/40 deg heat we've been having - a typical WA summer )

Why do people do that, when they know you are deaf? I'm finally getting payback on Margaret after all these years, she now claims I didn't say what ever it was, the denial of the going deaf knows no boundsDot wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 12:46 am Hey that's G's line or one of them, another is I can't hear you as your back is to me. Once you are deaf to the degree I am, lip reading is required to identify all the consonants from each other, that is the delay between you saying something and me going through all the possible combinations of letter that sound the same, in an attempt to come up with what was said ..... sometimes I fet it right, sometimes I get a real belly laugh asking how I came up with what I thought was said and what was actually said ...
To see what a deaf person deals with all day, put the tv on loud enough to hear in another room, then get someone to mumble gcdptv without them moving their lips, probably need them to hold a paddle pop stick between their lips and concentrate of it moving while the recite the letters in a random order .... and see how many you can pick out, then repeat it with their back to you from the other end of the house
Welcome to my world

Yes, it's the same for me. People that mumble or put their hand on their chin when they speak do my head in. It really is a guessing game then. Sounds like ???. One of my more common sentences goes like, I think you just said.....

Mine was dyno tuning and being caught in a garage at the original Eastern Creek dragway, and they fired up a top fueller in the garage beside us, I couldn't hear for the first 3 days afterwards, some returned over the next few weeks, but never got all my hearing back .....supersparky wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 8:13 pm Yes, it's the same for me. Hi Dot, staying out of the heat , I hope. Your birds still coming for a sampler of Brain's food? xxxx
Thanks Noggins, I will have to look into the coffee grounds. Our coffee comes in metal pod things so I guess it would be a pita to get the grounds out of them, but then again, he does love "his" roses.
Today was just a crappy hot, humid day with a "storm" at the end of the day. The rain was minimal and the lovely cool breezes only stayed for a short while. Hoping for some more rain tomorrow.
I was lounging around and picked up the end of the Australia Day concert. I am only one opinion here, but I was mortified when the National Anthem was started with a verse in "language" followed by the real anthem. I don't really know how many Aboriginal languages are spoken in this country, but I am sure there are a lot more than one. If my mob was not from where that "language" was from, I think I would be cranky. If we can't sing things in all of the nations languages, I feel we should work with the main denominator and sing in Australian English. I am fed up with this tokenistic approach toward our indigenous languages and feel that we are being insulting towards the many different mobs that do speak in their own languages. The difference being, that if they want to do any higher education or join the workforce, they must speak English. Can you imagine how a uni lecturer would behave if demanded to speak in 20 different languages? Not happening.

"tanks" here---
Hello everyone out there. I'm unable to sleep at the moment, so I thought that I would check out the Forum.
I guess that you are all in bed at this hour.
I'll try a hot cuppa, and Midnight Murders on the TV for a while, and I might go to sleep sitting in the recliner chair.
Keith.

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

I agree with that sentiment Deborah, we speak Australian's version of English (which is only a mismash of every other language anyway) it was written in Australian for Australian, sing it in Australian ..... I wonder what the "language" word for "girt" wasdream4red wrote: ↑Mon Feb 02, 2026 12:09 am Hi Dot, staying out of the heat , I hope. Your birds still coming for a sampler of Brain's food? xxxx

Can you imagine the uproar if they had done that with God Save the Queen back in the day before we had our own national song ....

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
A bit different subject with the usage of "Language"
Where I volunteer at Mandurah Muscateers Charity Computers, we obviously support the local Noongar people.
One day a young Noongar man came in via the local community bus ,( now the Shire has been doing a "feely" Language signwriting" all over the place, as well as the side of the Community Bus )
Anyway the tyoung fella comes in ------
"how yer goin Mate ?"
That Fe*k*in bus, it's an insult"!!!!!
Why ?
Yer see that language on the bluddy thing ?
Yehh ... Noongar aint it.
YERRRR ! The neo-Noongar some idiot made up !!! (Angry)
???Eh???
Its a mix of all the Noongar dialects !
And what's all the more insulting !!!!!
IT AINT WRITTEN IN OUR LOCAL DIALECT !!!!!!!!!
It's supposed to be OUR Local Bus !
Me ( silent)
Then Yer got any laptops
Yehh got a couple
Then back to a normal day at the fun factory.
So singing in "Language " may have been good for her mob, but with Aboriginal lore, it meant nothing to all the other Mobs or Clans, only her own language clan !

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Getting more pleasant down your way Dot? How's Mr G and Brian coping with all the heat? are you doing anything to stay cool? Lots of baths??? xxxx
It was so pleasant here last night. We had 1/2 inch of rain and the temp dropped dramatically. So much that at 7am his lordship pulled on the doona and it felt so nice to be warm, not hot. The weight of the doona makes you want to sleep much deeper, so a nice sleep in was had.
As it wasn't too hot, I went to the caravan and got a start on sorting through some of the cupboards and drawers. Before Christmas his lordship had dumped things into a couple of high cupboards, just to make sure that we had them with us. It was too hot at the time to be fussed, but now we have time and can sort a few of the little tidying things. I finally found the cutlery drawer and was amazed at how many half empty packs of batteries there are. I will be having a more intense tidy of that stash soon and some may have to be responsibly sent off to the tip. Our woolies has a box for dead batteries, so probably that's where many of these will end up.
Not much excitement happening here, but it looks like another busy week.
