Now in Albany!

Post by Loki »

From Perth to the Stirling Ranges - lovely mountains rising up from the plains, steep mountains, I might add. Weather wasn't great, normal for this time of year I'm told (actually cooler than Tasmania!). The Camp Hosts were amiable & friendly, keeping the campground very neat and tidy.

From there I stopped by at the Information Centre in Albany, with the plan to spend 2 nites at Cozy Corner and then 2 nights on the w/e in Albany where I now am. There is a rally of some sort, which I look forward to attending today, as well as the other sites of the town.

The following photos are from the Stirling Ranges, being the Night Sky (& Southern Cross), Late Afternoon View from Campsite and Bluff Knoll.

Many friendly travelers about, welcome company at any time but especially welcome in iffy weather (I have been known to talk to trees, they haven't answered - yet) plus a great opportunity to get good information on great places to visit I'd otherwise have missed. My neighbors at Cozy Corner had a couple of retrievers, tho Loki - my daughter's Red Setter at home - may be jealous.

That is a lovely photo of the ranges Loki. I never realised WA had anything like that.
Good to hear you're still going well enjoying your self.
Watch out if those trees start talking back though........ BBB reckons they talked to him!!!

The Stirling Ranges even get SNOW on them sometimes.
I was amazed when I read that as I had traveled all the way to Mt BawBaw ( Vic ) just to get some snow time.

Send us a PM when you get near Mandurah ......... Ok

Anton,
LOVED your first pic!
Perfect framing to get the whole of the Southern Cross between the trees, AND the Pointers below...
1st class!

Ros,
Joy & I got ALL THE WAY to the top of Bluff Knoll... and I discovered when I got home that I did it with a cracked Femur!
(Had the help of my "4WD walking stick" (a shooting stick with hardened spike on the end & handle/seat.)

The Stirling Ranges were very memorable for us. Not only did we also manage to climb to the top of Bluff Knoll, but it is also where we were (in the Moingup Springs campground) on 'Black Saturday' when we heard snippets on the ABC radio about the fires around our home in Victoria late that night. No mobile phone reception. There were no camp hosts there then, but the following morning a ranger arrived with a message from a mystery person telling us to phone our son. Turns out that the mystery person was a fellow forum member who had been following our progress on the 'net. Just goes to show that threads like this 'Where am I now' can be extremely helpful in difficult circumstances!
