Mackay Qld.

Post by ozfueler »

We finally had to leave our camp on the Fitzroy River near Rockhampton today.

Image

And are now "camped" ;) in an industrial estate in Mackay, just outside MTU Detroit Diesel so we can get 20 litres of Classic CF2, to maintain the regular transfusions that 6V71's regularly require. :P

After that we then go to get the expensive roof ornament checked out so that it might decide to eventually find us some satellites.

And then.............? 8-)

Lorrain n Steve,
we were in Mackay last October and found some lovely spots to visit. In Queens park, they have an amazing orchidarium, with the biggest collection of orchids that I have ever seen. A short drive South to Sarina, is the Sugar Shed. They have a wonderful miniature sugar mill and explain the whole process of sugar crushing etc in language that is easily understood and because their mill is a miniature, it isn't so noisy and dirty. They sell an amazing chilli and lime sauce. It was so good that I ordered some by mail last month and paid a fortune for the postage, but its a loved product now! :o :D
Does the visitors centre still sell the town maps for $1? I was so disgusted at that cost that I wrote to the mayor and told him they were the only place on the East coast that expected tourists to pay for a lousy little map. The Red Cross op shop gives out a map with all the op shops in town marked on it, that was a real find!
Enjoy your stay and have some sunshine for us....bbbrrrrrrrrrrr its freezing down south.

Thanks for the heads up Deborah, had a look around Sarina yesterday and intend to go back, the chilli and lime sauce sounds like a must buy, we both love Orchids and Lorraine REALLY enjoys her op shops. :D

Stay rugged up down there whilst we try to choose what T shirt to wear today. :P

Oohh "shrivelled orchids" for a week :o reminds me of winter down south, but, not up here it's mid 20's and all is well, even the satellite dish is finally co-operating.

Now if only I could get Lorraine to co-operate, we reached all time highs today with 'detours' and getting lost crossing from one side of Mackay to the other  , at least I'm never bored, I'm just never quite sure where we will end up. :?

Worth going inland from Mackay, up the Pioneer Valley to Finch Hatton & the Eungella NP. We made a base camp at the Finch Hatton show grounds. Nice friendly little town.

Thanks Cuppa, we've been looking at Finch Hatton show grounds as an option for a few days exploring.

Norman I know your right :?: , but the last time I took your advice we put the bus and trailer down some roads they probably shouldn't have ever been on  , lovely drive and scenery to Macclesfield, but about 30 kms in the wrong direction :? when we were just trying to get from Dot's to Murray Bridge
