Overnight Stop Wanted...

Post by Ros20549 »

Hi... We have about 2 more weeks and we are off again, we are looking for a good overnight stop (quite) somewhere between Ballarat and Murray Bridge.. We have stayed at Coomandook a couple of times but find this spot very noisy any ideas would be good.. Have heard a little about a spot at Mundulla does anyone know something about this spot, we are quite happy to pay a small fee if we need to. Thanks

Cheers Ros.

Ros there are 2 spots in or close to Mundulla.
The one at the football / showgrounds has a dump point and toilets.
With the rain we've had you'd need to walk into the camping area before driving in but as you're 4WD it should be OK.
The other area has no facilities but is all rubbled area.
The footy grounds are the better option but maybe not on Sat if the game is on there!!!
I'll do up a mudmap later on.

Mundulla is one of the worlds hidden charms. The old pub there is great. George is the man there. While the showgrounds is the official camping area, if you parked anywhere other than across someone's driveway, nobody would notice. The Mundulla area is at the top end of very fertile farming country that spreads down to the Coonawarra wine region. Magnificent trees around the area. Turn left at Bordertown and go in 8 kms, or if time allows it take the Serviceton road, which is at the border, and have a look at Serviceton and Wolseley. I think there is a short section of good unsealed road for only the last few kilometres.

Thanks everyone have noted these spots for a possible, but BOSS has now decided he wants to travel a bit further on before stopping so now looking for something a little closer to Murray Bridge. Any ideas, perferably away from the highway but if it has to be the highway then it has to be does anyone know about a camp behind the main street in Keith, :?: :?:

Cheers Ros.

Ros be aware that a lot of towns have the railway through them or close to them. Nothing worse than a freight train or 4 thru the night!!!
A few KM's off the track but Mt Monster might be OK? I haven't been there for many years. South of Keith.

Another place that would be OK is the Tintinara Airport/airfield. Couldn't see anyone moving you on from there. Only a few KM's from town and away from the trainline.
