Inglish as She is Writ

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Inglish as She is Writ

I wish I'd taken a pic with my phone...

On Bigpond's News service today (28 June):
'This will have a dramatic affect on our terms of trade, a dramatic affect on living standards of the country, a dramatic affect also potentially on employment, unless we have an effective counter-strategy,' he said.

The language is going to the dogs...

Yes I know what you mean.
It seems everyone is using American tires now rather than Australian tyres.
Our local paper is terrible. I don't know why they don't get some older retired person to run their eyes over the articles prior to printing. Only cost a cuppa or 2!!

We saw a sign with your written in the incorrect context, some one had come along with a 4" paint brush and different colour paint and modified the your to you ' r e making it quite obvious they were not pleased with the butchering of the english language

When I was younger, and working as a sub-editor, I used to carry a big, thick, black felt-tipped pen with me at all times.
When we were out shopping, I'd correct any mangling of the language on signs - mostly the incorrect use or non-use of the apostrophe.
I no longer do that, on the insistence of SWMBO.
I still point it out to shop staff... most of whom have no idea what I'm talking about.

Hamburger's $3.50; Toy's on sale today; Wear closing down!; Hardwear sale; Cauliflour's $1 each (a double whammy there!); Sock's 3pr for $3; Trevally Fillet's $2.50.
Just some of the horrors from my days (or is that day's? ) with the marker-pen.

Here's another gem from the Bigpond News Service:
Mr Rudd will soon be getting a Treasury briefing on the revenue projects for the tax, which so far have been disappointing.
I think the writer (I won't dignify them with the title 'journalist') meant 'projections'...

I did not think they had felt tip pens when you were young

I have just seen the word "Dropage", as in Dropage in 12V, used over on another forum. On another forum I sometimes visit, "Cordage" is often used rather than Cord. I figure it is just the Notsos trying to sound smart.

Dunno why, but I received an email inviting me to join this forum...
:?
Banner headline needs a little correction to the punctuation. Another unnecessary apostrophe.

Mods: Please attend to this...

Or maybe we should all give up & go with the flow:

Read a little further into the invitation:
Once activated your first 3 posts will need to be approved before they become visable to everyone else.
Anyone got a spell-checker they can spare?
