Does anyone know of a brand of GPS which speaks Macintosh?
Our recently-deceased (and un-lamented) Navman only spoke Windoze...

Re: GPS & Mac
Ray I think you may need to elaborate a little to explain why you wish to connect it to a computer.
Is it to upload POI's?
Is it to download your tracks?
As far as I know, very few people connect their GPS to a computer.

Garmin do both, have good daylight vision screens but have minimal other programs. (music, videos, games etc)

My my30 navman is not compatible with mac and is a pain to update.
You need to install the software on a windows computer (will need admin rights) and an internet connection to update maps and software.
I find the unit frustrating to use and update and suggest you avoid at all costs if you're a mac user.(found on Whirlpool)

Ray may need to download GeoWiki or similar POIs.

Re: GPS & Mac
Sounds like his existing one is dead but he's now trying to get one that does his desired job/functions.
My Chinese one is the best but can't read it's screen in daylight. t's shocking!
My little Garmin 50 is brilliant in daylight.
He obviously has a Mac... poor bugger! (ouch!)

Here I am, biting my tongue and you take liberties leading me astray! Shame on you. Anyone with a lifetime map and/or traffic camera update subscription, may need from time to time to connect to their PC.BruceS wrote:He obviously has a Mac... poor bugger! (ouch!)
However, I can't imagine Apple not catering for this unless they are of the opinion that their sheep never stray.

Re: GPS & Mac
Maybe you can get an apple GPS app for your apple phone, then it might talk to your apple computer, if they all speak the same core language… thought I’d seed it with a bit of a pun

Now Navman has karked it, and I want one on which I can update maps via the MacBook.

Re: GPS & Mac
Ray it may pay to get a few more recommendations first.
Although I'm happy with my reasonably cheap Garmin Nuvi50 I've found a few "problems" recently.
Firstly I bought the "cheap" version which meant I only get to update the maps ONCE free.
You can buy the same one for about $70 more with free updates for life. (not sure who's life?)
Secondly it (apparently) uses Google maps & I have found several errors in Google's Maps.
Some trips will try to send you many, many KM's around the wrong way. You have to be on the ball to ignore the girl with her "wrong way" instructions.
I've informed Google & they admitted the error on a particular road nearly 12 months ago & said they would fix it but ........... still waiting!
WARNING!! Anyone travelling from Bordertown directly to Kingston............. Turn off navigation on this trip!!!
