You already control a solid state relay with the Dingo don't you? That system is open ended. I have 2.5kW controlled by a PL20 at the moment, now the big gum tree has been cut down it will really get a work out..... if the sun stays out long enough that is
Was down at the local mega shopping centre, there was the usual site spruiking solar for roof applications. The panel beside him seemed huge, checked it out, said it was 250W. Well its a very large size more than the 4 low voltage 120W I fitted last year. With 7 panels up there, the 3x80W units would have to go before I could fit 1 of these. Even if the old 80W units are only putting out 50%, don't think I can justify upgrading.

Yes have that. Just got to wait till all the bits are done before I pick it up. This working for a living has got hairs on it now only get half a day off.

Just keeping in touch - all our panels are now working nicely. We had ten days parked in the shade at Kinbombi Falls a short while ago and the folding panel kept us going although the genset had to be fired up to help out the twin tub washing machine.
FYI the roof panels are 2@135watts and 1@140w. The folder is 140w and fitted with an Anderson plug and 8meters of 6mm lead, and all are hooked up to the one Morningstar controller. Today was fairly cloudy but at one point this morning we received 22.3amps from the roof panels, which is very satisfactory.

Good to hear the panels even in poor light are carrying you through. I think the folding panels and a quick connect method direct to the regulator are the way to go, especially now they have drpped so much in price.
I have been tossing up between fitting 4 of the 120w/130w panels or 4 of the 190w panels, i have both lots but the 190w units will hang 120mm over the edge of the roof each side, like stubby wings. after much thought and Margaret's approval (the important part) I've decided to go with the 190w units, yet another experiment in the wild. They are 24v panels but I am modifying them to 2 x 12v panels within each frame, it will still be 760w but at 12v nom instead of 24v nom. we will still carry the 520w of portable solar as well so around 1300w of solar if you add the little unit that was supposed to keep the start battery charged..... would have worked fine if I'd attatched it to the correct terminal and therefore the correct battery A new start battery now required, bloody lead acid rubbish

T1 are you positioning the panels one longways and one crossways?
It won't hang over the Mazda & definitely not the Bedford if they are longways. They might on the Kombi!!!

That's the size of the panels, with that much solar the kombi could be converted to electric drive …… another project for another day, the poptop would be hard to lift anyway
4 panels side to side on the Mazda roof. Because it's a semi hi roof it slopes in from the gutter rails up, the 4 panels just fit from the front slope edge to the Maxx air vent cover, where the air cond was before. They would fit long ways but then they would be 1616mm wide an with the power of the Mazda and a head wind I might just..... come to a stand still It's about as aerodynamic as a block of flats or a Catalina flying boat so it would need similar wings span and power to get it airborn

Yikes, huge panels or tiny rig, I'm fitting 4x 250s on a Landcruiser with room to spare.
