Dirk we have that rubber compound in our floor tiles and they cracked due to the foundations moving a bit. Might be better these days. The small area you are speaking of is nothing really so go ahead and do it, but remember the pics at some stage. ;)

We have 3 inch tiles from the door, all through the galley and bathroom. They are grouted using a cement mix approx 1:1 sand/cement. 25 years on, only one tile has been displaced. If the floor doesn't move, the tiles won't either.

Thanks to all for the replies, looks like ordinary grout is going to be OK. Can't see any movement in the short area where they are going so even if the worst happens I'll dig the cement grout out an do it in silicone. Thanks again everyone.

Kelvin,
Hunt around the 'silicone products' shelves at your hardware store of preference.
I carry a tube of white adhesive silicone for those 'just in case' moments.
You could use it to both stick your tiles down AND grout them, as it's white.
Also waterproof. I've used it to stick tiles directly to wood (no sealer used) and made tiled wooden trivets which can handle hot saucepans, spills of soup, hot washing-up water etc. So I can't see the stuff failing on a splashback.
Unless you travel lots of corrugated roads hammering the $#[t out of everything on board, including dental fillings...
(Can't give you a brand-name at this stage. Girt is being stored 'off-site' for a few weeks.)
Regards & God bless,
Ray
